April 2 Update from NFL Draft Scout:
Dennis Dixon gracefully executed a five-step drop along the field turf in Oregon's Moshofsky Center field house, knees bouncing, toes tapping, elbows pointed down, football held firmly in the grasp of his long fingers. The former Oregon quarterback showed no effects of the knee injury that ended his senior season prematurely last November. At the conclusion of his drop, Dixon yelled out, "Moneymaker," while his right arm unleashed a deep, tight spiral toward a streaking receiver along the left side. Former Oregon and current Seattle Seahawks receiver Jordan Kent hauled in the 50-yard pass in full stride in the end zone. Such passes could indeed make money for Dixon. But it's been some time since he's thrown a meaningful one. That will change Thursday when Dixon works out in front of NFL scouts for the first time during the pre-NFL draft process. A front-runner for the Heisman Trophy last season before a knee injury ended his season on Nov. 15, Dixon has been unable to participate in any scheduled physical activities before scouts in preparation for the April 26-27 draft. No all-star games. No combine workout. No pro day. His NFL audition, so to speak, boils down to Thursday. "The thing I'm just trying to prove is that my knee is ahead of schedule and I can do the things that they want me to do," Dixon said. - Aaron Fentress, The Oregonian
