Is Ricky Williams the compliment to JJ we need and is he worth the risk and a mid round pick?

I thought about that Saturday.I wonder what it would cost.If it was a 4th round pick then i'd jump on it. I think it may take a 3rd rounder though. If you get the good Ricky Williams then it's worth it. And, every year he's played he's been healthy and productive. It's the flakiness.

Depends on where his head is.

He'd be better than a compliment to Arrington. I'd view him as a feature tailback big enough to handle short yardage situations, with JJ becoming more of a passing down role player.

But based on Ricky's most recent performance, I think he'll be considered worth a lot more than a mid-round pick.

PS I soil-banked him on my Fantasy team, but came up a couple of weeks short (i.e. by the time he got to play full time, the playoffs had already begun and my team just missed qualifying).

At first glance, I thought "in a minute" However, with the draft lasting only 7 rounds, one might justify a third round pick as a mid round pick. It sure is close, but seems a bit steep for Williams at this stage of his career. I could see giving up a fifth with an opportunity to make the pick higher depending upon his play.

I agree that he would ge a good compliment to JJ. But in either case, they need to establish a feature back. I think JJ has the goods, but like any back, he needs holes to run through.

I would do this. But I would suspect that the Dolphins will be looking for a decent pick out of such a trade.

Ricky is worth a 4th or 3rd, he can still play and would really help our run game. Let's get real, when you can get a back like Ricky for a mid-rounder you jump on that.

Personally, I would give a #2 for R Williams. I would certainly prefer him over J Lewis. I think a question is whether Graves/Bidwill would want either, given thier off the field problems? I think Green would.

For a 4th I'd consider it, but no way for a 3rd.

The only reason he's playing is because he doesn't want to give back his signing bonus. He's got no team spirt or desire to play. He could easily quit again.

No team will give a 3rd rounder straight up for Ricky.

If the Dolphins want the get some value for him, they have to settle for a 4th-5th rounder with a conditional pick next year that could be as high as a 2nd rounder.

Saban really likes Williams and I see them keeping both Ricky and Brown.

Agreed. What is Ricky's contract situation? Is he unrestricted after this year?

BTW, Saban blew it taking Ronnie over Cadillac. Stoooopid move.

No, he's not.

But he's scheduled to make a lot money next season, so the Dolphins might want to trade jim, since they're also have Ronnie Brown playing on a huge deal.

What the heck have you been smoking?

Ricky Williams is worth a 3rd round pick.

I guess I am smoking the same stuff that a lot of posters above me are.

I do not think we need someone to "compliment" JJ. We need someone who can run the ball with authority and make yardage. At the moment I consider JJ our backup RB. I would like Cadillac rather than Ricky. Every year some good runners come out of the draft. Good teams find them. A good QB is the most difficult of all players to find.

You are right Jeff. Ricky Williams is worth a lot more than a 3rd or 4th round pick. JJ is not a feature back by any stretch of the imagination and that is one of our most important needs. Week after week I watch some of these good NFL backs and they have this in common. After they are hit they generally make more yardage and their legs keep on churning. This has nothing to do with the OL. It is a mindset. JJ seems to go down and if he has dragged any tackler anywhere it was backwards. If I need a yard or two I give it to our other RB not JJ. He at least runs with some authority although not much results. We clearly will have to find a RB this year as we are the worst running team in the NFL and of course OL to go with them.

Not to worry as we will never get him for a 3rd and perhaps not even a 2nd. I doubt Tampa will let him go.

John you amaze me, how many times does it have to be pointed out to you that Cadillac was drafted BEFORE the Cards first pick this year? You keep bringing him up as if we passed on him to take JJ, he was the 5th pick, JJ was the 44th pick. We never had a shot at Cadillac, if we had, I gotta believe we'd have picked him, Green was quite vocal that he loved the kid.

He's a great player, nearly 1100 yards 4.1 YPC, 6 TD, but even Cadillac can't run by himself, as he proved in 5 games this year where he got 30 yards rushing or less, and averaged about 2 YPC in those 5 games. Let's not forget that his backup, ex Card Michael Pittman, averaged 5.4 YPC so far this year, or 1.3 MORE than Cadillac does behind the same OL. Great rookie RB, helped turn that team around, but the real key to their run game this year is their OL jelled, and they had remarkable luck, are you aware that they had the same 5 guys start ALL FIFTEEN games this year on their OL? I believe they were the only team in the NFL to do that. I think we have one guy on our entire OL that started 15 games, Big, they have 5.

If you saw the Patriot game 2 weeks ago we all saw with our own eyes that when there is no blocking, Cadillac can't run, 13 carries, 20 yards, longest run was 3 yards, repeatedly diving down to avoid hits in the backfield because the Pats loaded up the box and he had nowhere to run. Teams don't have to load the box on us, they beat our OL with 7 guys, sometimes with 6, and they run blitz and get unblocked guys taking free shots at our RB's. We have a staggering number of runs for losses this year, some of that is the RB's, a lot of it is the OL stunk.

I just don't see the point of constantly bringing up a rookie who we never had a shot at drafting as an example of how "good teams find RB's" and we don't. Trash the Bears they passed on Cadillac, but don't trash us the guy was off the board and there was no way Tampa was going to trade down because Gruden loved the kid.

I would take Williams in Cardinal Red right now. Ricky is an enigma that most sports fans can't handle. He is of superior talent and has enough heart and desire to be great. He reminds me of Jim Brown. Life and his SELF is more important than entertaining the masses on Sunday. I would be the first to trade in my Boldin jersey for a R. Williams.

I'd take him but you have to be realistic, there's no more risky player in all of football than a guy who already quit once to avoid a drug suspension. Ricky is a hell of a player but he's one contact high away from another suspension, and any team interested in him had better get some sort of protection in a deal in case he screws up.

That's one reason I think Miami will have a hard time trading him, they're going to have to put in there if he gets suspended we'll make the pick a 6 not a 2 or something like that, and that probably complicates the deal too much.
