How bad would it really be if Palmer was too miss a game? Last year in the playoffs is what we all remember, and I'm not arguing it was awful. However, last year we didn't have Stanton and we didn't have a running game. Drew Stanton isn't a horrible quarterback. And in fact is a really good backup. So I guess my question is would the addition of Stanton and DJ lift this team enough if Carson was to miss a game in the playoffs?

Discuss.

No, Stanton and DJ would not be enough. Carson is what makes us superbowl contenders. Losing any other piece of our team, we would still have a shot. Without Palmer, game over.

Edit-If we're just talking one game.............against Washington or Green Bay in our house.............maybe. Anybody else, no.

Please delete this thread. Here's the thing:

Carson Palmer = Legitimate MVP candidate
Drew Stanton = Dude who was traded because Tim Tebow was coming.

It would be awful. Season over awful.

I think this is way too harsh. Season over? Likely. In awful fashion? Doubtful. Drew filled in rather well in Carson's absence last year.

But I don't want to see Drew under center unless we are up by 4 touchdowns going into the 4th Q, and this thread should absolutely be deleted.

You guys crack me up. Besides I clearly :stickman: 'd the post.

Clearly Palmer gives us our best shot. In fact, he literally makes us the odds on favorite to win the Superbowl. All I'm saying is that this team has more depth then any Cardinals team I've ever seen. And it is better able to cope with ANY loss.

You get Palmer his franchise passing record and when he gets those odd seventy yards, you get his ass out of the game... the objective is to win the Super Bowl and this game is going to be completely meaningless to that goal unless a miracle happens with Tampa Bay

I agree that the objective is to win the Super Bowl. So what happens if he gets hurt trying to get a passing record? I say we either play to win or sit him.

It's beyond stupid to have the starters play in this game!
You play for the ring...and this game has NO effect on that.

This team is much better than last year. It is a more complete "team". As crushing a blow as the loss of Palmer would be I really believe we can still win the SB with Stanton IF we can continue to run the ball the way we have the last 4 games. Floyd, Fitz and the Browns are playing out of their minds and if Stanton gets the ball near them they will catch it.

Defenses stop playing the pass if we lose him. Box stacked, running game limited, need to pass to win. No faith Stanton can pull it off. Is it possible? Sure, why not? Likely? Hardly.

For the record I would totally understand if one of the mods deleted this thread. I also wouldn't blame them if they baned me claining this thread was profane. :)

Losing Palmer for even 1 game would destroy any SB hopes. Palmer can make every throw: outs, crossers, fades, seams, and streaks. There's no throw on a football field he can't make. And he's accurate as hell, the best deep passer in football, as evidenced by his league leading attempts per pass and attempts per completion. No one else is doing that in all of football.

Without him, put Stanton in, you can ignore the out-routes, ignore fades, ignore streaks. Just protect the middle of the field and sink defenders. Stack boxes. It takes away everything, including our running game because everyone is sitting in the middle of the field. It takes away all motion, all flats, everything.

Stanton is a good backup, don't get me wrong. But he's meant as a stop-gap. A one-game in-season stop-gap. He can't win a playoff game against a good team with a good defense. Palmer keeps everyone honest and even then he's going to make some insane throw. Stanton can't do that.

Fair question. Wrong timing. I Think it would have been manageable to be without Palmer for a game or Two in mid season.
Not in the divisional round of the playoffs

Really? Delete this thread? That I find silly. If the Oline does it's job, Palmer should be fine. Besides there are no guarantees in the NFL. Palmer could get hurt on the first play of the first playoff game. Then what? Maybe sit him the second half, based on how the game is going and how the Carolina game is going.
