I've always been in awe of it. Yes, he gets fouled all the time, yet he almost always keeps his cool.

Yea, like that hard foul by Stack on Shaq when the Heat played the Mavs in the Finals. Shaq held his anger in check. He earned my respect then.

The league has been calling more offensive fouls for the last 3-4 seasons. What is called charging today was almost always called blocking back then. The most called offensive foul back then was moving pick. So, it's no wonder that Shaq is called for more fouls too.

We have a new problem for this team now that the Big Shaqtus is on board. We have 3 guys who don't get calls. Amare, Shaq and even Nash.

Huh??? Amare is averaging more trips to the line since Shaq got here. His 20 attempts at the line the other night are proof of that. Also, Nash has never gotten the calls. Even pre-Shaq. There are a number threads on that subject time and time again here. Even the 2 years that he was MVP, people complained he didn't get calls like an MVP.

I may overstate this....but didnt he foul out of the majority of the games he played for with the heat this year?

majority of his fouls with the heat were from perimeter players. it happens to a center when your perimeter defense sucks. he got fewer fouls against opposing centers...

Amare is 6th in the league with 578 free throw attempts.

The only players with more attempts then him are Dwight Howard, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Richard Jefferson.

Amare gets plenty of calls.

Amare does get a lot of calls, he's averaging about 9 fta per game. Still he could easily shoot 5-7+ more per game, but the refs get tired of calling fouls for him. It's like they decide that he's taken enough fts for the night and they'll only make a call if it's really horrendous. Or they feel bad because he's gotten guys in foul trouble and they don't want to foul out someone on the other team. Very few teams have a defender than can guard Amare 1-on-1 and it's hard to double team anyone on the Suns because it gives us open shots.

i think this thread is waaaay off base. other than the one raping that wasn't called in the detroit game shaq still gets calls. cheese and i marvel at the things he gets away with. we laugh about them with each other during games as they unfold. we have actually said, "it's nice to have the dude that gets away with murder." it's just that he doesn't get away with everything any longer and he's much slower and less explosive, so he can't do what he used to do. but make no mistake about it, shaq gets away with a TON . . . mostly defensively (thank god).

Yeah guys, I'm saying Amare should get more calls. Not that he does not get a lot. But my main focus was on Shaqtus. He get's smacked around all day and it's like he's begging for calls.
