How did the diamondbacks make such a bad decision with Carlos Quentin?

I would rather have Haren then cq. isn't carter in the red sox organization?

There are 2 Chris Carters (1B) in the minors. Both are good prospects. I believe the one that played at Stanford with Quentin is on the Red Sox. That wasn't the one that we traded for Haren.

Again, Carlos is a friend of mine and even I said he needed a change of scenery. With our loaded outfield, he wasn't going to get the reps needed to develop into the player he is today. Should we have gotten rid of Eric Byrnes instead? Yes, but then most of you would be whining about how the D-Backs never listen to the fans (like when they got rid of Gonzo).

I am so proud of Carlos for turning into the player he is today. I watched him on the USA Junior Team, and at Stanford and I would have never bet that he would be so consistent. The potential was always there for Carlos, but I didn't think he'd overcome being a head case long enough to establish his dominance.

Long story short, Carlos is doing great. We got Dan Haren indirectly from dealing Carlos away. Eric Byrnes is a waste now, but it didn't look like that would be the case a year ago. At this time last year, we would have all chosen Byrnes over Quentin based on past experience (They felt comperable and with so many youngsters, we needed a team leader). Sure, Carlos had more upside, but when the D-Backs suddenly surged into contenders, Josh Byrnes made the decision to go with a proven veteran rather than an inconsistent veteran. That is an easy decision to make when you can win now, I think.

We just chalk this all up to bad luck and move on. Sometimes a team just isn't the right fit for a player. Carlos didn't fit in our organization, thus he never blossomed until he was dealt.

Sorry Crisper, most of us knew Eric Byrnes was a mediocre player having a career-type year and that ownership would bow to the fickle fans regardless of good baseball sense and throw excessive money at him. We have been through exactly this scenario with this franchise several times before. How many times in the past have we hollered that 'A career year is not a trend!' Even the less sensible people on here at the time were more concerned about Hudson staying than Byrnes.

I agree 100% that CQ needed the change of scene. But people can't say on the one hand management knew what it was doing to trade CQ to get Haren, yet management couldn't have known what to expect from CQ -- because a lot of people in and around the team DID know.

We ALL need a change of scene, and it's called 'Sayonara BoMel.'

I disagree Byrnes is mediocre. I'd say he is verrrrrry average player (but a sub-par corner outfielder), which is much more than we could have said about CQ up to this year.

I absolutely agree with everything else you said.

Okay. You got me Mr. Thesaurus. I stand corrected and now agree with everything you say.

I think its funny how most everyone is crying about this when we did the same to Detroit in getting Gonzo. Remember how everyone commented on what a steal that was. These kind of trades happen all the time. We are now batting .500 in the getting a steal and giving a steal.

I'm not killing management for the reasons everyone else has mentioned.

On aside, is Quentin going to win AL MVP? Who are his top contenders, Hamilton's team isn't making the playoffs. He has 16 more homers than morneau.
