I grew up a huge Giants fan (once again, my daddy was a Giants fan, his daddy was a Giants, fan, etc.). Getting tickets to a Giants game is nearly impossible in NY unless you know someone with season's tickets or can afford to spend hundreds on scalped tix. As a result, I think I attended maybe 5 games from 1975-1991. It was frustrating because I LOVED being at an NFL game in general and being at a Giant game in particular.

I moved to AZ in 1992. A friend of mind took me to the Cardinals vs. Eagles game that autumn. What a blast! I honestly can't remember if the Cards won or not but I remember it being a close game and the Cards played their asses off. I bought tickets to the Giants game and then the Cowboys game too. By the end of the year I found myself falling in love with the Cardinals. Not because they were Cardinals, but because I could actually go to the games, get close to the players and root for a massive underdog who was out there leaving it all on the field every week.

The next year I bought season's tickets and I haven't looked back since.

1992 and 1993 were actually pretty good years to follow the Cardinals - if you are a fan "of the game". Even with a 4-12 record in 1992, most of the losses were squeakers and you could sense that an honest effort was being made. In 1993 they improved to 7-9 (only one loss by more than 7 pts) and I bought season tickets for 1994.

Unfortunately 1994 was the start of the Buddy Ryan fiasco. Bizarre coaching, a revolving door at many key positions and a feeble offense - the defense was expected to score points and win games. It was awful football to watch.

What happened to the "honest effort" of 1992-93? It hasn't been back since. Bugel was a rah-rah guy just like McGinnis is, but for some reason Bugel was able to get better results. Bugel's teams never rolled over and gave up.

I choose "Became a fan when they moved to AZ. In AZ." due to the fact that I didn't become a diehard fan until I moved to Arizona back in '96.

I became a fan when I was at ASU (90-94). Before that I always followed the Bears (and still do, just not to the degree that I follow the Cards).

Been a Cardsfan since 78

First game I ever saw (well actually paid attention to) was Cards versus Skins. Jim Hart was qb' ing and Ijust fell in love with the helmet and then subsequently the team. I ddn't have a problem with the Eagles at the time, but as I came up, rooting for any squad other than the Eagles in my family was a no-no. Since then the hatred grew for them while at the same time so did my love of the Cards. Been lovin' em ever since.

Dad took me to Comisky Park to see them play the Browns in 1958. I have been hooked ever since. I was present for the last game they played in Chicago (Soldier Field) and the last game they played in St.L. I don't want to claim that "honor" for AZ so I hope they stay put this time! I may be wrong but I think Cards, Rams and Raiders have all moved twice.

Rams have moved 3 times if you wanna be picky - Cleveland to LA, LA to Anaheim, Anaheim to St. Louis. (I said it was picky.)

Did the Cardinals force the Cowboys to wear their blue jerseys in St. Louis, and did that have some sort of "jinx" for awhile? The Cowboys were (still are) one of the few teams to wear white at home, and of course would wear white on the road too... except in St. Louis, if I'm remembering right.

Me

I grew up in Glendale.

It would be really neat if we changed the name.

That would make us win more games and would alienate the out of state crowd.....which would draw more fans to da game....wouldn't it?

That's the most important thing from a marketing standpoint because those out of state fans are retards and arseholes.

No team like us needs those idiots.

Most of them are 20+ year fans....who needs them....they're fickle and stupid.

I'm a third generation Cardinal fan. Grandpa and Dad, God bless their souls, were Cardinal fans and I followed in their footsteps. I was born in St. Louis, but now live in North Carolina. I hope the Cardinals never change the name!

My 3 brothers and I would line up against the neighborhood kids and play football, They would all play the roll of the Dallas Cowboys, My brothers and I was the Cardinals, Hart, Gray, Jackie Smith. I love the Cardinals, logo , History, tradition. I will always be a Cardinal fan Win or lose. I feel like you buckeyecardinal. I hate to hear people talk about changing the name.

Went to the "88" Monday Night Football Cowboy vs. Cards game as a Dallas fan...left a Cards fan. Steve Pelluer was the QB for the Boys...and I remember Hershell Walker running over some poor photographer on the sideline...the poor guy had to be taken away by an ambulance..it was a close game but the Cards ended up losing..but that was a great year capped by a come from behind win over the super bowl bound Joe Montana led 49ers...once Lomax went out it was all down hill....

You ROCK bro.

I was born in Oklahoma, but my father was from St Louis, and he taught me to cheer for all St Louis teams.

It was tough when they moved, but, I didn't miss a beat (I mean, they were still the cardinals). I've never been able to follow the cards closely until the internet. Now I follow every move, and it's pretty cool. This board is awsome.

Nothing like a perfectly good debate flushed down the tubes by crap like this. You're being an ass about the whole issue. Grow up.

There's an option missing for "became a fan when I moved to AZ".

My situation was very similar to Jon. Born and raised NYGiants fan. Become season tix holders when we moved to AZ in '96.

its not hard to imagine, with all the transplants from St Louis here (in OKC). But the cards have been so bad for so long that I thought most would have given up, especially after the move. Anyway, the Cardinals Superbowl part can be at my place! :D Be there or be square! :)

Is there a reason you OKC folks haven't gotten behind the Rams?
(Using that "I must support my hometown/regional team" reasoning, which I don't really agree with.)

Just curious.

Born and raised in St.Louis, and have followed the Cards forever. My Dad was a Cardinal fan and took me to my first game against the Redskins when I was 10 years old. Boy did I hate George Allen, always licking his fingers and eating his ice cream cones. We actually had some pretty good games with Dallas and Washington in those days.

It's hell living in St. Louis now and being a Cardinal fan. I root for two things every Sunday...for the Cards to win and the Rams to lose. The media here still rips the Cards every chance they get...and we give 'em plenty of opportunity. The perfect season is when the Cards go 16-0 and the Rams go 0-16. You gotta have dreams.
