Let me count the ways.

  1. NFL Draft, you know, the one that we've all been looking forward to for so freaking long. No signal.
  2. Pay per view - there has been about 4 movies to select from lately with all the rest saying "coming up soon" or something like that.
  3. Total monopoly on NFL Ticket - The only reason I have this crappy service. How is it possible that there is absolultely no competition or choice for the viewer? Um, Anti-trust anyone?
  4. Constantly changing the menu - they used to have a Scout option that allowed you to type in a key word and it would find programs coming up that matched it.
  5. Having to pay extra monthly charges for each receiver in each room when cable allows all rooms to light up.
  6. Absolutely no support unless you pay monthly maintenance fees. "Yes sir, I need you to climb on your roof and adjust the dish in the middle of this storm. Otherwise we have to charge you $100 for a service call."
  7. Having to go through 87 prompts just to get to a live person for Customer Service.
  8. HD is only in one room unless you pay extra to have it in all.
  9. Superfan package is an extra $100 a year even though you're already paying to have HD service and NFL ticket.
  10. Obnoxiously huge satellite dishes on the house that look hideous.
Not that I'm bitter right now. No, not at all. I swear if cable had NFL ticket I would never even consider having Directv ever again.

Your #8 is wrong. I have it in all 4 rooms in my house and I'm only paying $9.95 total for the HD channels.

SERIOUSLY??? They only gave me 1 HD Receiver and said I'd have to buy extras and pay extra fees!

That sucks, and is too bad.

I personally have never had a single problem with DirecTV. I love it. I'll never go back to cable.

I have had DTV since day one, For the first 7-8 years, I loved it..
I have had SEVERAL of their HD dvrs.. Every fricking one has had issues.. stuttering sound.. out of sync audio, complete freeze-ups on dvr playback, and one other thing.. why the hell is it, that as computers get FASTER.. DTV menus get SLOWER every year?
I have had several HR20's and now am on my second HR21.. all of them are total rubbish.

I switched to Verizon Fios 2 years, and absolutely LOVE them and the top notch dvr's they have as well as lightning fast menu speed/ on demand load times, but I'm forced to keep my dish and a minimum subscription, due to their monopoly on Sunday Ticket.

I hate hate hate DTV now.. hate em.

Directv rules and blows away any other alternative out there. I wish I knew what the heck you meant by no signal for NFL draft? I get it just fine and dandy!

Agreed.

I have Fios internet here and choose NOT to have anything more than the local channels. That way I can pick and choose the best HD channel in the living room.

DTV is great.

And I haven't had to pay for superfan since it launched. A little threat of canceling Sunday Ticket goes a long way to getting it free.

Also Directv absolutely has the monopoly on the Sunday Ticket. Dont blame them though. Thats what the NFL wanted putting it out to the highest bidder rather then making it available to all of them. Dont blame Directv for seeing a profitable investment when they see it.

It's raining here. It eventually came back, but got the "searching for signal" message for awhile.

Syracuse, check out this web-site:

Anything you ever wanted to know about Direct TV can be found on this web-site including how to talk DTV into giving you a better set-up. If you are paying for HD, DTV should upgrade all your receivers at no additional cost. You also shouldn't be losing the signal except in the most violent of storms.

If you have any questions, just post under the appropriate thread and you will get dozens of answers in a very short period of time.

If you have an old HD Tivo receiver, they will upgrade you to the new MPEG4 units for free, but you have to call.

I think superfan is the biggest ripoff in history. Pisses me off big time. Every spring I call and haggle with them and threaten to cancel to get it for free. Such a pain.

I'm not a huge DTV fan, but it is my only option to watch the cards games.

I just got an HR21 a couple of weeks ago. Not only does it seem to work great ( so far ) but it looks cool as hell.

I've had DTV for 6 or 7 years. If you lose your signal when it rains you have to get your dish adjusted. I had the same problem a few years ago and when they re-adjusted it it was fine. Unless of course it's a really bad thunderstorm or something. I live in Florida and we get some nasty thunderstorms but even with the bad storms I rarely have a problem anymore. Also, if there are trees in front of the dish they interfere. You might have to put the dish somewhere else on your house. When it was installed the trees might not have been in the way but trees grow. Plus you live in Syracuse . Orange messes with the signal. Orange men are just gay.

No trees in front. Wow, what's with the SU hating? Ripping on the Orange from the state that is all about oranges?

Just playin' ..... I'm actually a fan. I grew up ( well, I still haven't grown up )near East Stroudsburg Pennsylvania where James Mungro is from. I followed his career since his high school days. Plus Syracuse is a cool town. I used to go to Niagara falls all the time to gamble. I'd stop in Syracuse and walk around all the time. Plus Genny Cream Ale ( close enough ) used to be my main beer !! Good stuff.

i get HD on every reciver as well for one price. I threatened to cancel sunday ticket if super fan wasn't free and they were going to let me. They told me they couldn't/wouldn't give it to me free. BUt, in the end, they gave me a better deal, free HD service for 6 months (60$) and 10 bucks off my bill for a year ($120). So,instead of just giving me superfan for free, (99$), they gave me $180 worth of programming :doi:.
