Real quick. I love Barbosa, but I just wanted it to be mentioned that he is not good at the end of games... He has now missed two relatively uncontested layups in the final minutes of games Jazz and Lakers i believe, that have cost the Suns the game. Just thought that should be pointed out

He is still young.

I remember a young Kobe with 2-3 airballs with the game on the line in the playoffs once upon a time.

I chalk it up to growing pains.

Leo played 98 minutes in back to backs and missed a layup after having the ball(?) batted as he went in for the shot. I dont know if that means Leo isnt good at the end of games. He did have a poor shooting night overall(4-16), and has trouble getting contact fouls called for some mysterious reason, perhaps the "homecourt advantage". I was kind of upset that Banks didnt play in the second half to give Leo a break, and to use his physicality against Deron WIlliams to help wear him down. I thought Banks did matchup physically well with Williams. In all reality, the suns win the game by either just executing or by decent officiating a number of ways, it wasnt just the Barbosa shot. The noncontact 3 point foul(nonfoul) on Okur was needed to send the game to OT anyway. I cant recall the last time I saw a foul called on a 3 pt shot with no contact with the shooters team down by 3 at the end of a game. Basically, the refs gave the calls to the hustling team coming from behind as they seem to do nowdays. Its not just suns games, its all games.

agree nowagimp you can't make that ridiculous call at the end of the game, he did not even make contact at all! Stupid refs gave them alot of calls at the end and we got ZERO as we get hacked going to the basket, just another HOSE JOB by the refs if you ask me!

This kind of call was exactly the kind of call that people have been railing against in the NBA for 20 years. Refs shouldnt decide outcomes of games, and this was as bad as Bavettas BJ in the playoffs last year. It wasnt even mentioned as a questionable call in any media outlet I am aware of, unbelievable. I expect NBA officiating will be as bad as last year, oh well.

It was only a borderline foul. The general rule is that "the hand is part of the ball." Barbosa was hit on his wrist but it didn't cause him to lose control of the ball. I don't think that would be called a foul very often.

Now the Okur call, that's a bit harder to explain. And the fifth (offensive) foul on Bell was ridiculous as well.

I should clarify, the slapdown on Leo going to the basket at the end of the game was a borderline foul, often not called unless its Kobe or another non Nash superstar. Some other fouls on the dribble penetration were comitted earlier in the game on Leo and not called. You might explain that by saying a higher physical contact was allowed for both teams, or "let em play", though clearly the Jazz were allowed more contact on D throughout the game. Amare was called in the first half for a block on Boozer that clearly was an O foul. Later they got it right when Boozer plowed him over again on what should have been his 5th foul. The turn of the screw was that Amare actually shouldnt have fouled out.

The Okur foul was the one that I thought was the referee directly impacting the outcome of the game in crunch time, NO CONTACT AT ALL. That call is almost never made, even if there is contact before the shot(a slapdown), when the shooters team is down 3 with seconds remaining. The fact that the foul call was made on NO CONTACT, makes it a posterchild call for referees impacting the outcome of the game.

The Raja foul was just Raja tripping over his own man, it was a disgrace as well, but not nearly as bad as the Okur call.

That was his sixth foul. Bell's fifth foul was when Fisher (?) was all over his face, Bell stood up, and Fisher flew backward.

Yeah, the Okur call was ridiculous.

The Jazz were whistled for 33 personal fouls during the game, but only one foul in the last 5:48 of regulation during the "comeback". In spite of playing the second game of back to backs they apparently did not foul as bodies hit the floor every other play. In the meantime, both Bell and Amare fouled out during the great comeback where almost no Jazz player could foul. Deron Williams played the last 6 minutes without committing a foul(he had 5).
