BA is quoted by D Urban as saying that the two OT battles will be Levi vs. Potter at LT and Winston vs. Massie at RT and that he didn't expect anyone to be flopped from the left side to the right.

Makes me curious - If it turns out that, say, Massie is our second best tackle (left or right), does that mean he sits anyway? (Doesn't seem like the most efficient deployment of resources).

How could Massie be our second best LT when the coach has just said he won't be taking snaps there in training camp?

Same reasons that Levi Brown is the next RG up despite never aging there pretty much ever.

Well Quan is playing on his 3rd team in 5 years. ;)
Not to mention, K. Rhodes is still out there despite being one of the best free safties in the game.

This was probably the most veteran unfriendly offseasons in recent memory and it was compounded for OL due to the supreme talent and depth in this year's draft.

Not a fan of signing Eric Winston.

1. I don't think he is better than Bobby Massie.

2. Winston seems to talk better than he plays.

Again, just one guy's opinion, but I think it is a waste of time signing a right tackle when there is already one here, IMO

And you can throw all the stats you want at me about Winston. Massie was a rookie last year, didn't let up any sacks in the last 8 games of the season, that is with Ryan bleepin' Lindley as the QB.

Winston is 29 and keeps getting cut year after year. Do people forget how pitiful the Chiefs were last year, or how the Texans never lost a step after cutting this guy ?

This is Ken Whizenhunt BS going on right here IMO. Sign some washed up vet, and don't even attempt to groom any young players so that when Winston falls on his face and is gone next year, the only thing accomplished is Bobby Massie not getting time at his position.

The Cardinals are absolutely kidding themselves thinking they are making the playoffs this year, hence not investing in the future is a mistake.

I can understand the John Abraham signing. Schofield was not getting the job done and Okafor is a rookie who is not known for pass rushing skill.

What did Massie do to deserve his spot being challenged ? And if it is for the sake of competition, I will ask the decade long question of who Lyle Sendlein is competing with this offseason ?

BTW - heard on KTAR today Winston has already tweeted out that he is the starting guard for the Cardinals. I think he is a little ahead of himself there, he still has to beat out Bobby Massie. And that will be easier said than done, IMO.

I think you might be selling Winston a little short. He was ranked as a top 10 RT last year. If not, Massie can man the RT spot, and we'll have a solid OT to come off the bench for vet minimum. What's wrong with that? I can understand if you're worried about Winston handicapping Massie's development, but don't you want the best possible offensive line on the field?

I think we should have learned from last year the value of having depth at the tackle position. If Massie is better, he'll play. They control him longer contractually and it would actually save money as Winston's deal has incentives for number of games started (if I remember correctly).

It's a one year deal for a very reasonable price. I just don't don't see the downside. If you get the Massie of the first 8 weeks, sit his butt on the bench. If you get the Massie of the last 8 weeks, sit Winston or try him at guard if desired.

Also, the thing about him tweeting he's a started is completely inaccurate.

Many posters will be trying to get to the bottom of this , it's got to be some kind of a trick .

LOL.

Agreed.

Love the competition, just don't like Winston. If Winston comes out and proves me wrong. I will be just fine with it.

I am wondering why he is unchallenged also. Who can push him?

I still think he is the weakest link on our Oline.

If Sendlein is the weakest link on our Oline we're going to have one heck of an offensive front.

The Chiefs ranked 5th in rushing yards last season improved from 28th in ypa in 2011 to 6th in 2012. :)D yes I know Jamaal Charles was out in 2011 but it sounded too good to pass up.)

or how the Texans never lost a step after cutting this guy ?

Texans dropped from 8th to 16th in yards per attempt rushing 2011-2012. I need to watch some Texans film to see how the 7th round rookie that replaced Winston, but subs out every third series for Ryan Harris, looked last season.
