I was very apathetic about picking him up initially. With a new coach, I really kind of wanted us to bottom out, or take the risk on Geno Smith, and attempt the whole "franchise quarterback" thing. I was prepared to have an awful year with Drew Stanton, and just suck it up.

Plus, I'd watched Palmer play last year. He just didn't look good.

Now though, I've watched Geno fall, and really saw what NFL teams thought of him, and I've gotten to see some video of Palmer in OTAs. He looks like he's getting the ball where it needs to be, and with good velocity.

We might just have a chance.

Still, I'm only right in the middle.

How could you not be thrilled. The last three seasons Palmer has thrown 61 TD passes. The gaggle of Cardinal QB failures managed only 42.

The 3 seasons before he came to Arizona Warner had only thrown 11 TD passes. Palmer has half a hundred more.

Because he threw a ton of interceptions to put his team far enough in a hole for those touchdowns not to matter at all...

In comparison to last year the answer is simple. Our running game and passing game should be MUCH IMPROVED, but it will come down to how well our OL does. JMO.

Compared to Hall, Anderson and Skelton?

Night and day.

Yeah, I'm excited to see how he does. Someone who can read a defense and has a good quick release will improve the offense. Now it's up to the Oline to give him time to make it all work.

I am very happy with CP3 leading us after having to suffer through terrible QB's for several seasons.

I voted "a lot" but am on the verge of "very". Compared to the last 3 seasons I am very happy with Carson Palmer. Of all the QB's we could have watched I think he was definitely the best option to go get.

Now, if Lindley is cut my offseason wish of no QB that took a snap last season being here this season is fulfilled :)

I watched all his games last year, and he was pretty good for the most part....brilliant compared to what we had.
if we can protect him I have great hope

Not as often as some would have us believe and much better than missing wide open receivers to put your team in a hole so that the 4 or 5 TD passes a year you threw wouldn't matter.

11 TD passes! 55% completion rate! 5.6 yards per attempt in 2012! Only one QB in 3 years throwing more than 9 TD passes in a season with Larry Fitzgerald at WR! Matt Leinart could play left handed and do better than that and I'd bet Palmer is better than Leinart.

Trivia question: 2003-2012 other than Kurt Warner who threw more TD passes in 2008 than Dereck Anderson, Kevin Kolb, Max Hall, Richard Bartel, Ryan Lindley and Bryan Hoyer combined did in their entire time in Arizona, what Cardinal QB had the most TD passes in a single season?

Trivia question #2 who was the last Cardinal QB besides Warner to throw 20 or more TD passes in a season?

Trivia question #3: The Arizona Cards have had QBs be their leading passer with only 4 TD and 6 TD passes in a season. True or False

Should allow the team to win just enough games to finish at or below .500, yet too many to obtain one of the top signal callers in next year's draft. That is, not without trading a fortune to move up.

I don't care about next season's draft nor who's gonna take over for Palmer. That's one year away (even more if Palmer can be productive for a few more seasons. I'm anxious to see how BA coaching and Keim's recruiting ability come together.

I've said all along that this is a transition year, but I'm glad the team was aggressive and put itself in a position to win ball games.

I'm more excited about Palmer coming here than I was when we first got Warner. I thought Warner was washed up. And when we compare him to what we've had since Warner, the excitement goes through the roof.

True.

Yes it was Jeff Blake. And correct on Neil Lomax who threw 20Td passes in 1988 his only season in Arizona, 24 years ago. 23 years with only one QB, Warner, throwing 20 or more TD passes in a season. Palmer has done it 3 times in just the last 4 seasons!!!!!

The last one is false. A trick question. Beuerlein was the Cards leading passer (total yards) in 1994 and threw FIVE TD passes not FOUR. Tom Tupa was our leading passer in 1991 and he threw 6 TD passes. :(

I'm excited about the big picture that includes Carson Palmer . I think BA has a clear picture of the offence he wants to run here , and he didn't waste any time naming Palmer the starting QB . I read an article that stated that BASK did their homework on Palmer by reviewing all his throws over the last four seasons , someone recently posted a video on the board showing all of CPs 2012 throws , I watched 7 games of that video and came away impressed . Fitz is already commenting how pleased he is to have Palmer here . Just a tidbit that I noticed about Indy last season , the 4 games that Coach Pagano was on the sidelines as HC and BA was OC only they won at a 1 - to - 1 ratio (2 and 2) , when BA was HC/OC they won at a ratio of 3 - to - 1 (9 and 3) . I have a lot of confidence in BA that he is going to get the very best out of this team as a hole , and particularly Palmer and Fitz , and yes I am very excited about having Palmer here .

Love the stat on CP throwing 20 or more TD's in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

I voted for a lot but its based more on who we've had lately than how good Palmer actually is.

With regards to Warner and 11 TDs, you want to compare an injured Warner playing in St Louis and well as under the control-freak NY Giant coach and their dialed down system to the wide open passing offense the Bengals used? What about the wide open offense with the Rams when Warner started their ascent to the Super Bowl or here with the Cards after he got healthy?

Its not nice to compare apples to oranges, and tightly controlled offensives schemes to wide open passing offenses.

While I am excited to see what Palmer can do with the Cards receivers and BA's offense, Palmer has never approached Warner's accuracy nor Warner's deadly offensive precision in cutting up defenses. Case in point, remember when the Rams decided their best defensive game plan was to blitz Warner in order to neutralize him? Warner beat their blitz everytime and so badly that they gave up blitzing and played the nest three quarters with a straight up defense with zero blitzes. When has Palmer, Brady, the Mannings, Elway, or any other QB ever beat a NFL defense into such fetal submission that they defended the pass with 9 players and the rush with two down linemen?
