We were talking football at work the other day(we pretty much talk football every day for that matter) and we were discussing the opening day matchups and I made mention that we play Sunday night and someone I don't work with a lot asks(who's your team) and I simply replied "the Cardinals". All he said was, "oh, OK" and the conversation continued. Now, for those of us who don't live in actual Card country, that statement made by my co-worker is profound. Why? Because 10 years ago me saying I was a Cardinal fan would have been met with a chuckle, chortle, and at the very least, a smirk. Now, it's met with a "you guys look good this season" or something similar. I can't tell you how many times I've been laughed at when I said who my team was but no one is laughing anymore. It's definitely different.

Yes it's turned for us fans that's for sure. I'm like you man I can tell you're liking the football season and it's days away and finally here...almost!

I hate the bandwagon thing. The Seahawks fans are band wagon fans. Nope not me. I've been a real fan since the Phoenix Cardinals before this internet/web/forums stuff (azprosports anyone?)

We have to thank the salary cap and the stadium voters to get us in the game. Mike Bidwill to take us to the next level. Those were some bleak days when Bob Ferguson was the GM.

another surefire sign... was listening to radio in LA and they were going through the Rams first 4 games and when they got to the Cards game, without even hesitation, they said: "oh, that's a loss". we're now a team that people respect and EXPECT to lose to when bad or mediocre teams see us on their schedule.

this is fun. hope it continues to be!

When I look at next years draft class and don't have to look at pass rushers or LTs.

In a twisted sort of way, I almost liked it better when the Cardinals weren't as highly regarded! :talk: And this forum was tighter back then also!

Nothing beats winning though!!! :koolaid::koolaid::koolaid:

Back when they were perennial door mats, I would just get a response of 'Why?'. Now they kind of assume I'm a bandwagon jumper from the Warner era and I have to rattle off a couple dozen 70's Cards to shut them up.

Yeah, I've been accused of being a band wagon jumper myself which is funny considering the one's accusing me weren't even born when I first became a fan(1975).

I've followed two losing teams for a very long time. It's about time things turned around.

I still have a Cards hat that has the older "just smelled a fart" Cardinal logo on it. A Phoenix Cardinals sticker on my fridge. I do remember the Barbie doll chix that started coming around when Leinart was drafted.

it is weird. I've seen maybe 2 other legit Cards fans in 'Cuse that were supporters during the dog days. Now I am waiting to order at Brueggers and some 25 year old kid says "nice hat!" because he has the same exact one. I was at that exact moment reading how Dennis Green died and said "man, that sucks Dennis Green died" and he says "who?"... it's weird because I am glad the Cards are respected but at the same time I resent it because most of these people didn't suffer through all the 3-13, 4-12, etc... seasons and I know if we have even 1 or 2 really bad seasons all we will hear is "Same Old Cardinals."

I can't believe I'm actually whining about this, never mind. GO CARDS!

Plus the team's been in AZ for a while now and we have exaggeratedly bad rep because of all the right wingers and old people that keep voting for Arpio. We're getting younger. Also, 6 heads move in, 5 move out. Makes it hard to build a tradition.

Really? You're politicizing this?

I have an old St. Louis Cardinals pennant, t-shirt, and even a bobble-head.

I would add, especially those in Card country. A cardinal fan was a rare bird and the ones who were kept a low profile.

A guy that I met at a party, a Broncos fan asked me who my team was and when I said the Cardinals, he just looked at me and said... Oh, you poor bastard. I could tell there was genuine sympathy in his voice.

I originally thought it was a good thing the Cards were moving to the valley for a fresh start... I started thinking about it and got bitter because the team would now have a hundred thousand new bandwagon fans I'd have to put up with when I went to games, they'd care little for the 20years I'd previously suffered being a fan... Little did I know there would be 20k or so of us in the broiling sun watching 50k Cowboys fans go ******* over Troy, Emmitt and puke boy Irvin stomping the crap out of my beloved Redbirds. I was in for a rude shock at my 1st game there. lol.

Good times!

I remember when the Eagles were close to packing their bags and supposedly heading to Phoenix and thinking if that had happened the Cards may have moved from St Louis to Philly. That would have been interesting.

I was sooooooo hoping for this. I would have been a lifetime season ticket holder.

There's hope.

Twice in the past 2 weeks - in the ShopRite parking lot in Hazlet, NJ, a dude noticed my Cardinal hat and wished the team "good luck."

It takes time to change deep-seated impressions and attitudes. As Bobby Zimmerman used to say: "The times they are a changing."
