For 40+ years I have been predicting Cardinal draft selections. My best year was with Rivals. Mike from our site was actually part of the press corps at the Cardinals’ headquarters. With the greatest of fortune I hit the first 3 picks. Mike said the room went wild as no one there did. I don’t recall any mocks beating me either. However when Mike returned for day 2, I missed on every pick. Though in fairness after round 3 it’s a usually free for all.

In other years I’ve hit the first pick a few times. I’ve missed more often. Here and there I’ve hit a pick later in the draft, but it’s a crapshoot. The odds are heavily against everyone. This is the hardest year I have seen. Despite being widely assailed on the board, Ossenfort, to me, has done a solid job of building depth to the extent that the Cards have a wide array of draft directions to strengthen the team. I have a solid understanding of what my plan of attack would be, but Ossenfort constantly surprises me. He sees the process of tram building differently.

One of the keys to successful drafting is looking ahead to at least the next draft and Free Agency. 2026 will likely be a good year for QBs, CBs, OTs and maybe EDGEs. It doesn’t project to be a good year for DTs and WRs. Also a team needs to look at the contracts and probable durability of existing starters. Recent signee Tomlinson likely has 2 solid years of performance. So the DT position could be jeopardized soon. Likewise WR is already thin beyond Harrison, so both anticipated future weaknesses may be hard to address in the 2026 draft. Looking at Free Agency WRs look a little better than DTs though tags could change that. To me this says DTs are the biggest concern. Fixing WRs will be challenging just because the draft pool is weak. It wouldn’t shock me to see a WR go with the Cards’ second pick if the right guy fell.

I will still put up my preferred selections, but my confidence level is weak. We will shortly find out the Cards’ direction for this season. I am already confident they will be a playoff contender and likely a successful one. Keep in mind these are not my favorites, just my projection. They are in order of preference. So if someone from round 2 isn’t chosen before the Cards’ pick, that player becomes the top pick for round 3. I know, it’s logical. The list for round 7 is lengthened to allow for UDFAs who might be Cards targets. In the case of OLs, they’d only sign one as they would likely go to the Practice Squad. The others are developmental prospects who could likely be more immediate assets especially on special teams.

I really think people are too stuck on DT and Edge. I think FA has changed the outlook at the FO are more likely to address other needs.
Agreed. I'll say it again: WR Matthew Golden should be in play at #16. OR OL but I'm not confident on which way they go if they do go OL.

With the depth at Edge and DT, there are plenty of guys to get later.

Or Tet if he drops. WR's are ungodly expensive, and to have two potential studs on rookie contracts for several years would set us up nicely moving forward.

Good stuff Harry as usual. Agree that Monti is hard to figure out. I think you are probably right on the first round for a DT or Edge but he could go OL if someone is there that he really likes.

Drafting WR 1st round would disappoint me.

Why? Michael Wilson is more of a WR4 than a WR2.

And I love Dortch's big heart, but our WR3 rotation of him and Fehoko doesn't scare anybody.

If you want to say defense is more important than offense, I would probably agree with you.

But let's not act like post-FA the WR room is okay. It's not. It's the weakest part of the offense right now.

Yo money! :)

Like the Eagles? Idk but I agree that could be our blue print. Weird fact - Hurts had twice as many regular season carries (150) as Murray (78) but only 58 more yards (620 to 578). Would have never guessed that!

But if we're going smash mouth, then maybe trade back and go Oline in the first.

MO did well upgrading the defense in FA, but we're basically running it back on offense.

Post free agency, I'd like to see a day 1 or a day 2 pick for the offense por vavor.

Id be saying that too if Kyler was my love child. :)

Running it back? Clearly you didn't see the two OL and Fehoko signings. We set

@Harry

You have S a few times on your list.

What do you think about Xavier Watts?

We have other needs but a ball hawk is one as well.

I have been banging the WR need for a while. Unless/until MHJ takes a giant step forward, the Cards have a bottom 10 WR core in the NFL. Complain all you want about Kyler, but better WR play would go a long way to making the offense more explosive.

The problem is that its just an "ok" WR draft at the top -- Ebuka and Burden are one element the Cards need-- a guy with some juice in the slot-- but just kinda "ok" on deep speed.

Draft guys i respect, including Harry, consider Tet Mac a king sized possession receiver. The Cards already have one of those.

I like Tre Harris of Ole Miss later in the draft.

Watts is an outstanding safety and if the Cards were willing to pay the price a starter would cost, he’d be a serious option. However, you’ll notice I took safeties late. The Cards currently have 3 potential starting safeties and thus greater needs. Watts likely goes late 2 or in the third round. That’s too early a choice for the Cards to use on a safety. If he’s still there when they pick in the fourth I’d consider him.

Harris running a 4.54 would be considered a possession receiver. He’s certainly a competent receiver who likely goes late 2 or in the third round. I think the Cards need a deep threat.

way i see it - monti has his board - if his board is gone at #16 he's thinking trade back

there are what - two qbs predicted to go in the top 15?
two tackles? a tight end and a couple/few corners?

so 7 or 8 of the first 15 players drafted are going to be edge/dt/lb

question is - who's on monti's board?
