way i see it - monti has his board - if his board is gone at #16 he's thinking trade back

there are what - two qbs predicted to go in the top 15?
two tackles? a tight end and a couple/few corners?

so 7 or 8 of the first 15 players drafted are going to be edge/dt/lb

question is - who's on monti's board?
Kenneth grant…Derrick Harmon …Walter Nolan…mykell Williams or Shamar Stewart…..I would be happy with any of those….no to pierce or green because of character concerns….no to will johnson injuries

When it comes to WR, I think Egbuka is being overrated. It will be interesting to see what he runs at his pro day tomorrow. Golden, Bond, and the guy from Iowa St. interest me, maybe Burden but that's about it.

but Ossenfort constantly surprises me. He sees the process of tram building differently.

Well there's the problem! Other GM's are building teams and Monti is building a tram! :D Ha ha, jk. Very good insight as always.

The only reason people are stuck on those is because it is one of the strongest groups in the 1st round.
well, and because it matches need. Our new DT is older, last years draft pick has yet to show anything due to injury, and the year befores edge is the same....while sweat gives us a strong 8 sack guy...he should be a 2 on a strong defense..we still need a 12 to 15 sack guy across from him.. Tomlinson and sweat are win now acquisitions, but our youth movement demands we take advantage of the defensive front availability in this draft...a draft with this many red chippers is rare, especially when most of them are defensive front

We have two above average players on the DL. DL is absolutely a need at #16 and/or #47.

You think so. I don't think the FO do.

They will expect DRob to step up, a first round pick from last year. Nichols and Jones contracts are locked in, they get both back after missing most of last year. They get Beej back, a 2nd round pick. And they added Sweat and Tomlinson.

That's 5 guys that weren't here, didn't play or barely played. I think you're going to be disappointed.

In a deep class you can do that later.

I really think people are too stuck on DT and Edge. I think FA has changed the outlook and the FO are more likely to address other needs.

They can now field a team on day one with the additions made in FA.

That said, I don't think the GM will be turning his back on the strength of this draft in round 1 and possibly round 2.

Why? Michael Wilson is more of a WR4 than a WR2.

And I love Dortch's big heart, but our WR3 rotation of him and Fehoko doesn't scare anybody.

If you want to say defense is more important than offense, I would probably agree with you.

But let's not act like post-FA the WR room is okay. It's not. It's the weakest part of the offense right now.

Jones. Fehoko is Pascal part deux.

Yeah, we can add more of the same later.
But we need upgrades in the front 7...and the best chance to get those upgrades is in the first 2 rounds.
The odds are highly against any DT we get in the 3rd round or later being any better than Nichols or Jones. Certainly not better or as good as Tomlinson or what we hope Robinson is.
Depth just means there are a lot of them. But the cream rises to the top and has to be drafted there.

This is one Cardinals fan who is tired of always getting the cream of the crap instead of the cream of the crop....and that's exactly what we will get if we don't address the front 7 in the top 2 rounds

Agree with this completely.

All 32 teams aren't drafting DT or Edge though are they? There are other great players.
Again, there are only two or three non-defensive front players I would take over the likely options at 16.

I'm not going to take a QB, RB, TE, ILB, or S at 16.

That leaves WR, OL, DT, EDGE, and CB.

There is only 1 WR at 16 and that is Matthew Golden...and I am still 50/50 there.

There is pretty much only 1 OL I am taking at 16, Membou. (Maybe Will Campbell)

There is only 1 CB I am taking at 16 and that is Will Johnson.

I have more DT and EDGE that I prefer at 16 than all other positions combined. IMO, that is just how the draft class is looking to shake out at 16.

In theory. In application it is easier to do earlier.

I think it is a better argument for round 2. I can understand passing on Nic Scourton in round 2 for Donovan Jackson or Shavon Revel or Demertius Knight because Swinson and Stewart might be there in round 3 or 4.
