Suns are my Kryptonite!
This poll is used to point out how we have a honeymoon period with most players that put on a Suns uniform, but then become angry at some part of their game at minimum to total disgust trade at all costs!

I mean, I understand the situation we’re in, we’re so limited it’s hard to trade. All we can do it tweak things so I’m happy we are trying to improve a glaring weakness. It isn’t about him being a better player as it’s about him being a better fit.
I had to pick one and figured "lack of hustle over a week" was the most fair. He looked really good and as long as he plays hard, I'm happy. He didn't cost much so I'm cool with him playing like a backup for 20-25 minutes a game. Expecting more is asking too much, IMO. Ill take more but I don't expect it.

There is not much downside in trading for Richards.
The Suns were desperately in need of a center capable of providing an inside presence on both offense and defense.
I will miss Josh Okogie, but the price paid for a center who is capable of starting was minimal.
This trade reminds a bit of the trade for Rachaun Holmes except, the Suns only gave up cash in that trade.

I haven't seen anyone turn on him yet. I have seen some of us caution about unreasonable expectations but I've yet to see anyone that didn't think it was a good move.
For myself, I think he easily improves our weakest position but we still have problems. From what I've seen he's a very good backup center, good enough to start even but probably not good enough to put an end to the search for an upgrade at the 5. Of course close to half the teams in the league are looking to upgrade their center, at least we've leveled the field somewhat.

An added bonus regarding Richards is he is signed through next season at a low salary. He's owed $5 million for next season and even that is not guaranteed so if he sucks for the remainder of the year, the Suns can let him walk.
The guarantee date is June 29th 2025 according to Spotrac.com. That is before free agency opens and after the draft, which puts us in a good spot. At $5 million though he should be retained because he is definitely better than minimum signings like Plumlee, Jock Lansdale, or Drew Eubanks. That is twice the minimum but roughly 3.5% of the cap so more than fair for a backup.

I don't expect Richards to put up stats as good tonight every night, but if plays solid the rest of the season, I'm sure I will be pushing to extend him this summer.
The Sun's talent at center is so low, it's hard to see otherwise.
