Since the first year they moved here, and my dad got season tickets...I still remember winning a $5 bet in fifth grade against a Giants fan, in the 1st year when the Cardinals beat the Giants to take the lead in the NFC East, but lost Lomax shortly after, and the season was basically over...Maybe the 2nd best season the AZ/PHX Cards have ever had?

It started for me when Conrad Dobler was drafted by the then St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth round, out of Wyoming University. This was in 1972. Conrad played his senior year at Wyoming in 1971. Being reared in Wyoming I've always been a Wyoming Cowboy football fan - basically it was the biggest sports activity around, while I was growing up. Anyway, I followed the Cardinals for about the six years, until Conrad went to the Saints. I still followed the Cards, but became a real fan (like most here in Arizona) in 1988.
[Note: the coach at Wyoming in 1971 was Fritz Schurmer]

1979. I remember it all too well. It was Thanksgiving Day 1979 and I was bored stiff sitting at Grandma's house. I scrounged for some money, headed to the convenient store and bought a copy of PRO Magazine. On the cover of the magazine was Ottis Anderson and that big quirky bird on the side of his helmet just mesmerized me.

I've been hooked ever since.

Cool. It really was the helmets for me, too.

Since I have been in Arizona. First pro game I ever went to was the Cards against the Saints in 1998? Ditka was coach and Kerry Collins was the QB. It seemed surreal to me.

I have been a fan for the Cards since John David Crow was their halfback. I thought he was going to be a great, exciting player, but as usual some divine force intervened and he tore up a knee and was never the same player. The Charlie Johnson became the quarterback a few years later and the Army decided that they needed his services. blah blah blah. Such is the fortunes of being a long standing Cardinal fan. Well maybe we can win before some divine power intervenes on my behalf.

I liked the unis as a little kid in the mid 70's, but I really got into them in the early 90's - came across a game on teh car radio while i was waiting for the Mexican to meet me.
Joe Bugel's post game interviews were funny.
I rremember that season '91 or '92 - they went 7-9 and lost a lot of close games.
Haven't missed a home game since '98.

Moved to Arizona in 1996 and adopted them (I was a free agent before, rooting for whichever team played in a style I liked. IOW, a bandwagon jumper). When I moved away, I realized I couldn't dump them--there was no other team in the NFL I cared about as much as the Cards.

If you ask my wife, she'll probably tell you that I'm a bigger fan now that I'm not in AZ then I was while in AZ. I disagree. I just happen to be a bigger NFL fan now than before, so I'm more vocal about the Cards now then before.
