I would not trade a 4th rounder for Captain Checkdown who won’t lead you anywhere unless you have a supremely stacked team let alone a 1st, but that’s just me.

Agree to disagree. Cardinals cannot do better than Alex Smith in 2018 draft based on where they will be picking without selling the farm.

Finding another Warner or Palmer is route for me to get 4-5 years of stability to ride out this defense and David Johnson.

Alex Smith through trade fits that bill with Shurmur as HC? I would give up a 2nd or 1st rounder for Alex Smith.

As a known Kool Aid drinker, I just want to know what vodka you are using to spike the drink comparing Alex Smith to finding another Palmer or Warner... I have a novel idea, let's draft our own and then only beer will suffice :)

I don't know man. If they draft a green horn QB, they will waste away David Johnson and a solid defense as he takes his lumps the next few years. Look at AD's vikings in his prime. Drafting your own will consume you unless you are picking first or second. Even then for every Wentz, there are more RG3s.

Both of us aren’t sure about that, though. I guess we’ll have to wait & see.

If the Cardinals hire Pat Shurmur and he wants to bring Keenum with him as a bridge to a young QB, that's the right scenario. Without Shurmur, signing Keenum is a moot point, imo.

I think I would prefer Shurmur with Alex Smith. I would be okay with Keenum as a temp bridge QB or back up.

What are you willing to give the Chiefs for Alex Smith? Ian Rapoport is speculating the Chiefs would to get the 2 second rounders they gave up for him in 2013. He would be heading into his 14th season in the NFL.

lol... I dunno if anyone is going to make that trade... they may release Smith..
if they bench him they have a disgruntled player on their hands...if they keep him starting they are wasting away their cost management on the rookie.
if they think mahomes is ready to start..... hell,.. might get Smith for a 6th on draft day.

I would be cool with that...draft a rookie, then call Reid right after we use our fifth rounder and offer him a 7th for Smith... then let him haggle us up to a sixth.

I would say this years & next years 2nd round picks would be good. Or use one of this years comp picks with next years 2nd. Guys on here are undervaluing him. He has great stats this year & last years wasn't too bad.

If they actually draft a good QB, the team is ready to rock in 2019. One year of lumps, next year you could easily be in Wentz/Goff-land.

He is number 8 overall stat wise. 26 TD's to 5 int's. Threw for over 4k yards. 67.5% completion percentage. Don't think we can do much better than that. Better option than drafting Jackson imo who I think will bust. I'll take a sure thing over a maybe.

I’ll take the unknown over the sure thing of leading you nowhere even with stacked teams.

Smith always has decent stats... the issue with him is pushing the ball down field... this season was the first time he really did it and still started slacking on it the second half of the season. Much of his stats are also inflated by having two very dynamic players to throw to on offense in Kareem Hunt and Tyreek Hill...

he would have DJ here... but we dont have a WR that can Match Hill with the ball in his hands

Smith led the NFL in passer rating during the regular season and was superb on Saturday. Smith went 24 of 33 for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He is one of just six quarterbacks in NFL history to have at least 250 pass attempts in the playoffs and a passer rating over 95. The other five quarterbacks are Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Kurt Warner, Super Bowl champions Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers and 2016 NFL MVP Matt Ryan. Smith's passer rating on Saturday was 116.2.

Smith has always put up good numbers.

But for some reason the guys around him do not elevate... they dont give off the impression they would run through a wall for him... which is why the niners, and now the chiefs, have decided he wont take them all the way. So they drafted his replacement and put him on the trading block.
I was a big advocate of Smith when the Niners were wanting to get rid of him and even suggested here we should go after him.... but not now.
I would rather gamble for a chance at greatness than settle in for a few more years of known mediocrity. Alex Smith is a fine Quarterback but unfortunately I think he is just what he is...a great regular season QB.
Jim Kelly lost four consecutive super bowls surrounded by all pros... but at least he got to four super bowls.

Alex Smith has pretty good stats except in the biggest stat that counts-playoff wins.Forget him and look farther than the end of your nose.Think aheadpeople.Sign a inexpensive caretaker QB and draft a QBOF to groom and bring a couple more young QBs to camp as 3rd QB options and PS guy.Draft to upgrade CB and OLine if QBOF isn`t available in ROUND 1 then pick next QB in draft you think can be deve3loped to take over for your caretaker QB.Spending mucho dollars on Alex Smith and draft picks borders on insanity.Signing Case Keenum is crazy. You are going to have to rely on defense a lot and ball control.

It boils down to - Do we feel Keenum or any other game mgt QB is worth, say, a #15 pick at QB or any other position or any top 10 - 15 player on our roster?

My gut says "No."

there aint a free agent QB out there right now who is worth that #15 pick...... one could argue for cousins due to his age and the team he was playing on... but it would just be an argument.

For a top 15 pick,...you would have to be trading for a QB under 30 who has shown some degree of post season success to go along with the regular season stats.
cousins has played in 2 playoff games, started 1, and both were losses.
he wasnt horrible at all... but he didnt show any greatness either

Against the same defense,

Foles 38 - 7 Keenum
Foles 41 - 33 Brady

Yeah, Keenum is worth a bag of Chips. Paying more than 12-14 million per year for two years for Keenum is a bad decision.

Two #2's?

Not bad if you see the path yet to be taken by the QB leading to a nice, green pasture.

As good as A Smith's stats are, I suspect his road-yet-to-be- taken leads into a solid brick wall.

Pass on the #2's.

Keenum is a system QB; He was great due to Shurmer. Cards don't have Shurmer; So not worth it at all and a big NO. I'd much rather have Foles over Keenum
