I grew up in the East Valley. I was very excited to be receiving an NFL team in the Valley. However, since the first couple of seasons and the losing tradition, I soon forgot about the Cardinals until they drafted Jake Plummer. I watched with interest as Jake lead them to the playoffs one year, but soon fell into my same apathy the following year when keys players were let go and Jake was reliqueshed to scrambling for his life until the Denver Broncos provided a safe haven.

Fast forward to Apriil 2006. The Cardnials lucked out, beyond luck to draft, IMO, Hall-of-Fame talent and poise in Matt Leinart (Look folks, only about 5 QBs in the history of the game would call an audible against ND on a 4th and 9, with less than a minute to go... there was no panic in Leinart then, and none now. 99% of QBs that young would have listened to the coaches and probably lost the game).

Fast Forward to the signing on TO with the Cowboys... yep, you guessed it, I am a Cowboy Honk. Most people in the Valley are - we didn't have a team growing up, the Cowboys were great, they had our ASU QB (Danny White), why wouldn't we be Cowboy fans? I knew I was going to have to hold my nose during this season with TO, so I was looking to watch another team.

Finally, fast forward to Last-night. I tuned into the game ready to watch the whole thing. PHX was going to be on the National Screen, the Bears are supposed to be the big deal, and Leinart was on my fantasy team and I needed a good night to win my game (got it by the way).

The Cardinals showed MAJOR heart in the first half, and guts against seemingly unsurmountable odds. I know they lost, and I know this stings to all of the faithful, but the Cards have a new fan.

we're 1-7 and Playing the Cowboys next month?

Classic baiting... I didn't say I hated the Cowboys. I will root for Eric Green to crack TO in the back, front, and side when he comes over the middle. I will root for Leinart to throw 3 TDs... the rest is up to fate. I can honestly say that I will be OK, whatever the outcome... Although, I would like to see the Cardinals rip off 10 straight to finish the season behind the arm of the ROY!

You've got to admit, they're attractive in a nads kicking, kinda offbeat way.

only the cards could gain a new fan after last night's debacle. somehow, that makes sense.

It's one of those syndromes.

You know the one where the kidnap victims stick up for their captors. I can't recall the exact name at the moment as big red is telling me it's time to video tape another confession about the atrocities of winning football games (about which, he is 100% correct I might add).

Anyway, welcome aboard the USS loony tunes sailor.

Stockholm Syndrome.

And a very apt description of what we go through.

Hard for me to believe a true Cowboy fan would switch allegiance to the Cardinals because he hates one All-Pro big-mouth player so much! I think it does make sense to switch because they are your home-state team but its very difficult to go against these strongly-held loyalties particularly when one franchise has has so much success and the other is considered a "laughing stock".

Leinart is definitely a long-needed spark of hope for the future and if he continues his superb play may win us a more true fans in AZ and around the world. He has star-power and the media loves him.
