Texas Tech's magical run through the NCAA tournament now has the Red Raiders on the cusp of the Final Four, but standing in their way is the toughest test yet: No. 1 Florida.
The Gators are on a nine-game winning streak, one that carried them through to a championship in the SEC tournament. Tech, meanwhile, has beaten a No. 14 seed, a No. 11, and a No. 10 to get this far, all of them interesting games late in the second half.
Florida is a 6 1/2-point favorite in a game played in San Francisco. The winner will travel to San Antonio in the national semifinal.
The No. 3 Texas Tech Red Raiders will take on No. 1 Florida in Saturday's first game, which will start at 4:09 p.m. Mountain (3:09 p.m. local/Pacific, 5:09 p.m. Central) at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Texas Tech plays Florida Saturday, March 29, at 4:09 p.m. MT/5:09 p.m. CT on TBS and truTV.
The Gators are 6 1/2-point favorites, according to odds on BetMGM.com. With an over-under of 156 1/2, Florida is expected to win 82-75.
The winner advances to the Final Four in San Antonio, where it will play next Saturday in a semifinal against the winner of the South Regional. That will be either Auburn/Michigan or Ole Miss/Michigan State.
The El Paso Times: Florida 80, Texas Tech 70
Bret Bloomquist writes: "Texas Tech has enjoyed a great run, but Florida has been one of the hottest teams in the country for a while. The Red Raiders have been plagued by slow starts in this tournament and Florida has shown great depth. That's a bad combination for Tech."
It writes: "After extensive simulations, our model gives Texas Tech a win probability of 25%, while Florida has a win probability of 75%."
Kevin Brockway writes: "Another strong second half will fuel Florida to its first Final Four appearance since 2014. Expect another balanced scoring effort for the Gators and for UF's bench to play a role in the outcome of the game."
Nathan Geise writes: "There are a lot of things working against Texas Tech in this game. Back-to-back games against physical and bigger opponents, having to muster everything it had to get the comeback win over Arkansas. But the Red Raiders have almost mastered the art of playing above expectations. You can't count them out until somebody knocks them out, and they ain't hearing no bell just yet."
