The D-Backs have had intermittent talks with Orlando Hudson’s camp about an extension since late in 2007, but the sides appear so far apart that it would take a major move by one to rekindle meaningful dialog.

Hudson, a three-time Gold Glove winner who will become a free agent after this season, is said to be seeking a yearly salary similar to the $15 million Philadelphia’s Chase Utley will receive in each of the final four years of his seven-year, $85 million dollar extension signed before 2007.

If this is true, then I guess we'll unfortunately have to say goodbye to O-Dog. The Diamondbacks would be crazy to give Hudson close to $15M per season.

Well it looks like Chris Burke is going to be the 2B of the future because I'm pretty sure they aren't going to give Hudson anywhere near that... He's a good player, a good guy to have around the clubhouse, and a great guy overall... but come on $15 mill?

Well the good thing is he would bring in some prospects from a team that needs a 2B come July. We can re-stock the farm and move Burke & Bonifacio into his spot.

If Hudson put up Utley numbers he would have a case.

It's much more likely that the Diamondbacks will just keep Hudson if they are in the running for the postseason. You never trade away a chance to win now to restock the farm. Now if they are say 15 back by the deadline, they may deal him.

the smart move would be to keep him, offer arbitration, and either keep him one more year or take the picks.
