So who's going to this show? :)

fyi...tickets will probably go on sale early next week. Not sure, just guessing. Regular tickets will probably be in the $80 - $120 range.
If there is any way in hell I can swing the tickets, I'll be there.

Genesis, AC/DC, Pink Floyd to name a few with 2 good singers......
Agree. You could even throw in STYX and Journey. Seen both of those bands in recent years with non-original singers, and they were both awesome!

In recent times...Creed is now Alter Bridge with a pretty good singer. I liked Scott Stapp better, but the new guy is pretty good too. Completely different styles as the new guy sounds more 80-ish type vocals.

I'll be there, but remember it is the day after the ASU/USC game and all those condom fans will extend there stay to see the boys before they hit SoCal.

IMO, the styles are so vastly different that it's difficult to compare them.

I like 'em both.

Yeah I can see liking both. Though the overall sound of the band was more sleazy and interesting with Roth IMHO.

Sure they are both likable, but the original VH with Roth was some legendary rock. OU812 et al not really legendary, in my opinion.

lol. It's rather icky. And OU812 has to be one of the worst album titles in the history of rock.

Back in the day, Van toured OU812 with the Monsters of Rock tour and it did not do well.
The joke at the time amongst promoters was OICU812.

Van Halen remains one of the most important and influential bands of all time. Formed in Los Angeles in 1974, the band quickly won a loyal hometown fan base with their electrifying live shows. From the moment they released their self-titled 1978 debut album, Van Halen shook the foundations of rock, thanks largely to Roth’s peerless showmanship, Eddie Van Halen’s revolutionary guitar virtuosity and their songwriting abilities. It changed rock music forever.

The band’s first album proved one of the biggest selling rock debuts, with key tracks like “Eruption,” “Running with the Devil,” “Jamie’s Cryin’,” “You Really Got Me” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” leading the way. The next year, the band followed up with “Van Halen II,” which included the hit “Dance the Night Away.”

Subsequent albums like “Women and Children First” (1980), “Fair Warning” (1981) and “Diver Down” (1982), along with worldwide touring, solidified the band’s reputation for innovative and unparalleled live performances. Classic Van Halen tracks from the early 80’s include “Everybody Wants Some,” “Unchained”, “And The Cradle Will Rock”, “Beautiful Girls”, “Mean Street” and “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” just to name a few.

With their sixth album, released in, and titled “1984”, Van Halen rose to stratospheric heights. Recorded at Eddie Van Halen’s 5150 Studios, the multi-platinum smash yielded one of Van Halen’s signature hits, “Jump,” which remained #1 on the Billboard charts for an astounding five weeks straight. Other hits from the album include “Panama,” “Hot For Teacher” and “I’ll Wait.”

The band’s record of achievement is hard to top. Presented with two Diamond Award RIAA Certified Status’ for their albums “Van Halen” and “1984”, Van Halen joins an elite short list of two time Diamond Award honorees in the history of the music industry. The Diamond Award is presented to an artist for album sales of 10 million or more units. They are also in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most #1 hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart than any other band in history.

Inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in March of this year, Van Halen has produced a treasured body of work that fans will admire for decades to come.

Hope this happens here

livenation says that Wolfgang Van Halen is on the tour (I would presume taking Michael Anthony's place). I didn't think he was that old yet. I'm going to have to do some research...

That was quick. He's 16.

When your kid plays bass with you on your latest tour? Time to hang it up.

Van Halen represented rock n roll debauchery from the middle 70s through the middle 80s. They (along with KISS obviously) redefined rockstar excess with their stageshows and their offstage antics.

Why cant people be happy with the memories? Music today is AWASH with bands that would be better to leave us with just that. Its not just rock n roll either. I keep seeiong these punk band reunions, and while its fun to hear the songs live, my guts really tell me that Id have been better offf remembering the good old days than trying to create new memories...

Why cant people be happy with the memories?

Because there is still a huge "market" for awesome classic bands to tour. There are so many classic bands out there who tour without the original line-up and do well. KISS, STYX, Journey, Bad Company, Queen, etc. etc.

So when "the" original singer (David Lee Roth) pairs up once again with guitar legend Eddie Van Halen...people will want to see that again. It's been 22 freakin' years!

Because there is always room for new memories to be made.........

I guess, but my point is generally, my newest memories of the classics have been, "They shoulda left well enough alone."

I mean, it'd be a gas to hear Roth sing "We're getting funny in the back of my car, Im sorry honey if I took it just a little too far, yeah..." Prolly my favrite Halen song, but:

1. it wont be the same with Anthonys backup vocals missing, and
2. it'd be WAY better to see him sing it in 77, hell 87, than in 07.

Roths lyrics and Halens music isnt ageless, like say the Stones. They played hard ass kickin rock n roll, and its a little laughable to see guys of their age creak around on the stage doing it today.

To each their own I guess. Music is supposed to be fun - not some sacred holy grail. If someone enjoys watching a wrinkly Roth slither around the stage singing about banging a teacher then that's great. And hey, some of those songs are really good so there's no reason to automatically think the band will suck.

I do think it's uncool that they gave Michael Anthony the boot though. If EVH wanted to work with his son he should just start a new project. Or he could have Wolfgang play those dreadful keyboard parts - a monkey could do that.

Im not being snotty about it. Music is supposed to be fun. But Id prefer to watch 20 somethings sing about screwing teachers, not 50 somethings. Inddeed, to each their own.

Thats unrealistic too.. The teachers (female), dont like 20 somethings anymore.. They like 13-14 year olds.. Havent you been watching the news the past decade or so?

Well...anybody score good seats today? They went pretty fast this morning. I got decent seats. Not great, but decent. I'm happy my seats are at least lower level about mid-court.

For the next several months watch ticketmaster as they will most likely release some excellent seats as the date gets closer. They hold back plenty of the best seats for various reasons and if demand doesn't warrant they will release them at a later date. It's really aggravating to see front row seats come up two months after you were only able to buy mediocre tickets.
