the hearing is monday morning in philly - the will go and make the arguements and then the arbitrator will need time to rule - this thing should be handled by mid week

need this thing settled one way or another so the hawks can figure out exactly what kind of play to make at abraham and peterson

Exactly. Get it over with already. I'm more concerned about not missing the majority of free agency than I am in retaining Hutch at this point.

Now if he were going to the Cardinals, I'd say match at all costs. The last thing I want is Hutch blocking for Edge. Scaaaaaaary.

NFL Network (Adam Schefter) said Seattle is offering their first rounder while the best Atlanta will offer is their second for Abraham. Apparently the Falcons have reached agreement with Abraham on a potential contract and Seattle has not. Bryce Fisher said on Friday night that he expected Abraham will end up in Atlanta. Schefter felt Seattle would match Hutchinson and they'd get two of three from Abraham, Hutch, and Peterson.

Rumor is that Atlanta has Added TJ Duckett to their 2nd round offer, and the jets are trying to get amo to make the move to #2 for Matt Lienart whom they seemingly have a hard on for right now.

Yeah, I've also heard that the Jets have said "no thanks". They want a first rounder. This is fun to watch because I've already conceded that we're most likely not going to get Abraham. It's kind of cool because if you have that thought in mind, they really have nothing to lose. Why not keep your hat in the ring just in case the Jets and Falcons really can't get anything worked out? Not like it's tying up cap space or anything. The Seahawks can continue to pursue other free agents and when they feel they've got somebody to sign with the money they would otherwise use on Abraham, they just pull out.

Sometimes it's just fun to be the spoiler. Besides, I enjoy watching everybody on the Falcons boards cry about how they wish we'd just butt out. ;)

and the drama continues - walter jones has reworked his deal

this per Mike Sandos Blog (tacoma news tribune)

New twist in Hutchinson situation | Subscribe

Seahawks LT Walter Jones has redone his contract with the team so that his average per year declines beneath the $7 million average offered to LG Steve Hutchinson by the Vikings. Some of you have asked recently if I thought that would happen. I said I did not think it would. I was wrong. My understanding is that Jones added one year to his deal at a base salary of $1 million. This extra year will void in the end, but for now it lowers the average. The team then converted his 2006 roster bonus ($2 million) to signing bonus. That affects his cap number this year and lowers the average. I'm also told that the special master intends to make a ruling by this afternoon, and that the issue being debated is a little different than we thought. The disputed clause in the Hutchinson offer sheet would guarantee the full $49 million contract if Hutchinson were not the highest-paid offensive lineman on his team in 2006. The question, in light of Jones redoing his deal, is whether Hutchinson had to be the highest-paid guy for every day of the league year (Jones would have been paid more for part of this year, up until he reworked his deal). Hope that helps. This is a developing story. Loose ends must be tied up. Information must be confirmed. Stay tuned.

Seahawks | Lose out on Hutchinson ruling
Mon, 20 Mar 2006 15:22:36 -0800

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports "special master" Stephen Burbank ruled against the NFL Management Council and the Seattle Seahawks Monday, March 20, in their attempt to match the Minnesota Vikings' offer to OLG Steve Hutchinson under altered terms. The ruling means the Seahawks have until 9 p.m. PST Monday to match the Vikings' offer to Hutchinson, or he will become a Viking.

This is great to watch. First they lose the ruling and now the Walter Jones contract breakdown does not help them out, because the Hutch contract was signed before. So by matching Hutch he is guaranteed $49 million over 7 years. Then throw in that Abraham does not want to go to Seattle and will not accept a deal.

In addition Julian Peterson is looking for a 16-20 million dollar bonus with most up front. Who would give Peterson that type of money especially with the Ponstons as his agent.

I seriously think the Seahawks have been treated unfairly. First the superbowl, now the rulling on Hutch. Either way it has been fun to watch a division rival get throw around by the NFL.
