I have Ad-Ware SE and Spybot but I still get these errors that say to turn my sysytem off. I used to be able to get on the web and come to this site and others without logging in but now every time I get on the web and visit this site and the others, I have to sign in. What can I do to prevent this?

Sounds more like a trojan, but either way, go to this site and download Stinger.
It captures and removes the latest trojans, worms and viruses. There have been a slew of them lately.

What is it asking you to log into??

Also, what flavor of Windows are you using?

This board really needs a medical forum.

I think you got it backwards NavyVet. He should have a trojan before he got the stinger.

Two words.

Free clinic.

First off, ad-aware is awesome, spybot is good, but just not as awesome as ad-aware. Second, these are NOT anti-virus programs. They are anti-spyware and anti-adware programs, these are completely different things here. But alot of viruses, including trojans, infect your PC thru spyware and adware. So, you need an awesome AV program on top of ad-aware. The ad-aware to find the spyware and remove it, the AV to remove the infections contracted by spyware. The jury is out on the best AV. My only opinion on these is that McAfee suc*s!! I use Norton's corporate edition gold, it is awesome!! Someone up here posted about majorgeeks.com. I use that site alot for new updates. I just updated tonight, re-scanned, and it picked up the spybot worm AGAIN! It found it before, but I had to re-boot in safe mode, go into registry edit and manually remove the worm. But, somehow a different version of the worm now has found its way back on here, and I got to go thru all that reg edit again

And the reason why you have to log in each time you re-enter is because you do not have cookies enabled, which is a good thing. But, if you want to enable cookies, I don't see why you should want to, but if you do, go to the tools menu, click internet options, then click privacy, and set it up to what you want.

Hope this helps.........good luck!

If you are running windows xp, before you can really remove the trojan/virus that is hitting you, you probably need to go to my computer, right click and go to properties. Then click system restore and turn it off. Then run whatever removal tool or scan you need to. Without doing that, the infection will keep coming back.

Further, make sure you keep up to date on all the critical updates at windowsupdate.microsoft.com so the security holes that these viruses/trojans use are all patched.

Further - if anyone here isn't running antivirus software, and don't want to go out and spend the money to buy it, you can download a free antivirus program here: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

Story about the free software here that sings its praises:
http://www.techworthy.com/PCUpgrade/NovDec2004/AVG-Anti-Virus-6.htm

I personally haven't used this program, since I always have used Norton, but the article says that program is pretty good.
And, I will also quote you here, bratwurst...

First, no I do NOT run XP, I've never liked it. I run 2KPro, the 2nd best is 98 2nd ed. But, anything at all that says to me "system restore" would scare the he1ll out of me to click lol. Definitely keep up the MS critical updates, no doubt about it!

2nd, I don't know about that AV program you put up. I've always known Norton's to be the best bar none! And, you have it, so that's awesome! But, to those who don't and who don't wish to buy, you can "safely" d/l a shared copy from winmx.com, I highly recommend corporate edition gold above all other symantec products, then I recommend completly removing McAfee from your system if you got it :p
