Lack of communication seems to be a common theme in the organization. We heard Mike Myers complain that he wasn't told he lost his #1 lefty specialist role.

My hunch is that the club waits to see if problems will sort themselves out (I knew I saw a grin on Joe Jr's face when Tony Womack got injured in Detroit saving him one hard decision). Sometimes that works, but many times that asks for trouble.

More than once last year I saw comments that Bob Melvin was the communicator, the interface between management and players, and I believe on his radio show Curt said losing him "would be huge."

I am increasingly struck by the overly-controlled facade and lack of candor from any level on the public front - other than JC himself. BB says only the cliches, Joe G Jr is like listening to warmed-over pablum, and really, very few players ever speak up or say anything remotely interesting - without getting labeled malcontents (by us as much as by media, folks). This whole group is way too tight, and it's impossible to tell if any of them have a clue as to what's wrong at the various levels, or if they have insulated themselves in a cottony cliche-cocoon and believe their own nonsense.

THE ORGANIZATION HAS NO CLOTHES!! :p

And yet it is clear that there ARE problems - at the player-execution level (pun intended), at manager and coaches level (E-Rod must go!), and at GM level. Vic Rojas has been increasingly (and almost tiresomely) outspoken about the lack of discipline and inability/unwillingness to carry out the necessary offensive or defensive acts (e.g., the frigging sac fly, Junior!!!), and he has openly puzzled over some managerial decisions, as have we all. Nobody publically goes after Joe Jr., of course.

The only people who can publically complain about the GM of an org are the owner and the fans. Our "managing general partner" shows a pretty clueless face to our press when he speak of our troubles:

"We thought this was going to be our best team yet."

"It's just that some things haven't gone our way, injuries and such"

Our fans, in general, have shown no understanding than the owner. They have turned to the field manager to blame for this bad team. I don't even know if 1/2 of our fans know what the GM does :(

I amy not know everthing the GM does but he's choice of acquisitions during the stretch run the last few years have been horrible. Fettars,Lopez, and Mondesi haven't played out have they? IF I remember correctly we had a chance to trade for Schmidt 2 years ago. We chose Lopez instead. Now Schmidt is the ace of the Giants staff. Just think where we would be if we had him.

Its all about money. he Dbacks weren't interested in Schmidt because his contract was up and they didn't have the money to resign him. Lopez was a rent-a-player.

The problem with everything plain and simple is the Dbacks sold the farm to win a championship and now they're paying for it in the way of defered salaries and debts to investors. This is why every move they make is based on finances.

Your team isn't going to get better very fast when every move they make has to be a cheap one.

Ummmm, wouldn't that have made BOTH players rent-a-players? Both of their contracts were up at the end of the season.

Yah, but they would have had to give up more to get Schmidt just to let him go.
