I hate to say it, but the Cards FO really screwed up RE: ILB/ DWaste situation.

I don't blame the team for this - the blame is squarely on Washington's shoulders. I don't understand why players HAVE to smoke weed all the time... and there's plenty of players I know that do it, so I really wonder how much worse it has to be for you to get tagged for it.

I doubt the Cards picked up the option having any clue that he was going to get a one-year suspension for drug use.

They probably should have tested him the day before picking up the option just to see if he was clean. Stupid rule anyway. In no way does it affect his performance on the field.

Cards have been constantly moving the roster around since BASK have been in place. They could be fully alert to DW getting suspended but if there are no players out there worthy of bringing in to replace him---what should they have done?

Foote was probably the best they could do in FA. If they knew that DW was going out for the year, they could have traded up for Shazier or Mosely in the draft. I think they would have made that move if they had known the repeat drug violation situation with DW.

Let's see how they solve the problem now that the hammer has come down on DW. My guess is that they have the ILB's available rated as to their ability to fit in the Card's scheme and will somehow make it work.

You're probably right. I think their draft would have been different had they of known.
