Get her to read this thread. It will help her understand that importance of this game. Get a room at the Biltmoore (sp?) or other fine hotel in phoenix and let her enjoy the luxury while you cab it to the game.

Thank you everyone for all of the replies. I truly do appreciate all of the heartfelt replies and advice it meant a lot and I knew I could count on all of you.

Well last night I called her (she is in Wisconsin right now) and asked her outright if she minded if we could change the dates and go to the dinner show another time. She said "I knew you were going ask me to do that. Yeah thats fine I dont mind at all. I'm happy for you and congratulations on the Cardinals victory"

So now I am going to try and switch the dates with the hotel. I dont care if they will or not I can eat the 400.00 and just pay the wife back and pay another 400.00 for a new night. Its just money and we cant take it with us when were gone. :D

Oh and Donald reference your quote....That is some funny stuff right there. :lmao:

Danmit, now I have to live with Brighteyes saying "See, all you had to do is talk to her"

My sympathies man. I feel your pain. I had a friend's wedding at the same time as the Falcons game. I decided to go to the game, skip the ceremony, and show up late for the reception. The timing worked out for me, but the churning in my stomach did not stop until that day was over. Not a fun decision.

If you have to choose, I would choose your family. That is the ultimate lifetime get-out-of-jail free card. That is a sacrifice that never wears out when you bring it up. In 30 years, when you are in trouble with the wife, it will still be a valid sign of your commitment to your family.

I really hope you can get them to change the dates/times for you. Good luck.

You know, I don't know you, Shane. But I love reading your post, and when I read this I was truly sorry for you. You and I both know that the right thing to do would be to go with the family, but damn, what a bad situation.

All day I have been checking this thread for updates, and when I read the above a huge smile appeared on my face.

I am really happy for you.

Cards home game for the NFC Championship is ONCE IN A LIFETIME event.

Vegas will be there FOREVER - any day any time.

I agree with poster number 2 - offer to have her take her friends to vegas - you keep the kids and have a babysitter watch them on the day of the game.

Chances of getting another home game for the NFC Championship in our lifetime is small.

...but then again you are asking those of us ON THE CARDINAL BOARD - we are all biased...

...put this post on a marriage site and see what they say...if they say Cards game...then you have to go to the game.

...or sell me your tickets so I can take some more family.

There are different degrees to everything and I understand "family first" but if you live in Las Vegas(I did for years), a "trip" to the Excalibur is about as special as a trip to the Sizzler for the rest of the country. A wedding, funeral, Christmas, whatever I can understand. The planning and/or importance of those situations is certainly greater than football(to most).

I'm late to this conversation and am glad that you got it worked out in a way that's best for you but I don't see why you didn't just plan something for Saturday that was all about the family, reschedule the Excalibur dinner and go to the game on Sunday. No big drama. If that scenario was a ****-storm waiting to happen then you've got bigger issues than what day a football game is on.

Good news, Shane. The fact that she said, "I'm happy for you" speaks volumes! (I was wondering how this was all going to turn out - thanks for updating all of us.)

wait, wait, wait. She booked this family night on Saturday or Sunday? If it's Saturday, do Family night, then catch the first flight out of town to Phoenix on Sunday.

That's the kind of thinking you need sometimes. I went to the Las Vegas Bowl this year on a Saturday and drove home after the game to be with my family at an event early Sunday morning. It was worth it both days.

Seems simple, but as a married man with kids - I understand that it never is simple.

Ain't that the truth. :)

Glad it worked out, Shane! The lesson, gents? Don't ever give up until you've tried every crazy solution possible.

I have always found out that a 2 or three carot diamond ring, does wonders. One like this should do the trick!! Seriously, how bad do you want to go!
