From Cox to DirecTV.
It won't be installed until next week.
Essentially over the course of two years it will be a hundred and fifteen dollars more then Cox but I get the NFL Sunday ticket this year, all HD channels, including the premium movie channels, along with an HD/DVR and a standard box.
I just don't think Cox can compete in the HD race right now.

Ok Mike, you can now say I told you so. :D

 I went from Dish Network to Cox (hell, my boss is paying the bill w/the phone & internet, so I can't complain) and it SUCKS. I was so much happier w/the Dish. I imagine DirecTV is comparable. I don't hate it enough to ditch what I'm getting for free to pay for it again, but I do miss my satellite.

With the NFL package you don't have to pay the regular cable bill for four months.

If you haven't or don't plan on it, you should up the package to the premier package until the 4 months of the $69 payment is completed.

They actually discounted that to $59.99 for the first four months.

My dad has DirectTV and Qwest for Internet. Guess I have different priorities, because Cox Cable is fine for me and there's no way I'd go with any other provider for Internet.

O Directv RULES! O You made the right choice. Cable sucks.

Oh and Linderbee there is a huge difference between Dish network and Directv. If you loved the Dish you would orgasm over Direct. :D

you can get a discount on your Qwest internet with directv as your provider

I was bundled with cable, internet, and phone prior to my DTV move.
We'll see what happens to my bill next week when I cancel my cable.

I have no problem changing my land line phone back to Qwest but I don't see me changing ny internet service,
As far as Internet goes; there is no comparision.

I really don't have a problem with Cox.
I had the occasional service problems, nothing that wasn't resolved in my favor though.
I expect problems to occur with DTV too.
To me it's all about the HD.
If Cox were to step up, I would stay with them, they aren't.
End of story.

;) I'm currently orgasming over my "no cable bill", so I'm just going to have to stick with that. ;)

So Cox doesn't offer HD in your neighborhood? That's weird. My brother's had it from Cox for at least 2 years.

I have the Cox HD package but what they are offering does not compare to what DTV is now offering. Or Dish for that matter.
I don't see Cox being able to offer as much HD in the near future as the sat companies do.
Thus the switch.

And so it begins!

My installition was supposed to be today.
The installer shows up with only the HD/DVR receiver. I had originally ordered a standard receiver for the bedroom. Evidently the CSR did not put that on the order even though I repeatedly went over the order with him.
The installer arrives without the standard box and says call DTV. I do.
The order has to be cancelled, I have to send the installer home. He cannot install the HD/DVR and come back later and install the standard box.
"Company policy"!
I had to create a new order, had to have my credit card charged again, I will get the original charge taken off in three to five days.
The poor guy that came for the installition will not make anything for the trip because he didn't install anything.
I was told the next available installition was not until next Thursday, a week from now!
A supervisor is supposed to call me back tomorrow trying to get me an earlier date, we'll see.
It didn't need to be this hard. They are making it very difficult to be a customer.

BTW, did I say I was disconnected three times while trying to resolve this.

call back - ask immediately to speak to retentions and let them know you're really frustrated that they're making it so difficult to even become a customer - see what they are willing to do to make you happy

if you are buying any sports packs make sure you let them know that you're missing a weeks worth of programming from that package as well

I thought about that and still may.
The supervisor I finally wound up dealing with, in the installition department, tried to get a hold of the local installers but they were closed. She told me she would get a hold of me in the morning after she had talked with them.
She seemed sincere, we'll find out tomorrow.
If I don't hear from her and I'm not satisfied I will absolutely call retentions.

You'll be lucky if you talk to someone within five hours. Direct has the worst customer service.

disagree - they used to be really bad, but in the past year and a half i've had nothing but success with them

i called two weekends ago about 20 minutes before the start of the seahawks game - started off with the regular service rep, asked for retentions, she had to note my file and then find the correct transfer - made it to retentions mentioned that I wanted to upgrade my HD DVR to the newest tech so I could get expanded local stations

since my account wasn't showing the auto-upgrade she guided me through a complaint that would allow me to replace my "defective" dvr and the replacement would just happen to be the new equipment

she also gave me crap about only having 1 line hooked up to it and asked if I wanted a free service call to see if we could do anything about it - I declined due to wall placement

then she went and gave me free superfan

i had enough time to spare to grab a beer and settle into the game with the HD feed

new receiver showed up - i swapped out the equipment and had it completely activated within 3 minutes of calling the DTV customer line

my parents were one of their original customers and left due to poor service - they ended up coming back due to the change in service attitude

the only thing I'd watch is that they are a for profit company - i originally bought my old 10-250 model 1 week before the new dish came out - service tech showed up and let me know about the new stuff that was coming down the line - i cancelled my order, got the new 5lnb dish and a standard HD receiver and moved my old DVR to the secondary room - about 4 months later they gave me the 10-250 for free for renewing sunday ticket - then they upgraded my 10-250 for free just recently

the whole thing could of cost a lot of money - but it didn't
