OK, so my Dad (PACardsFan) and I were planning to the game. Not neccessarily in the stadium as neither can afford to drop a furtune on it, but we were going down to Tampa anyway. I found the deal of all deals that includes my airfare, full-size rental car and place for less that half of what I was expecting to pay. I now have actually been given the go-ahead by my better half to search for a ticket while I am down there if I can get it for 1,000 or less. Being a Cardinal fan I have no idea how much SB tix actually cost once you get down there, so if that price isn't possible let know. Either way, I would have a blast.

Anyway, Pops had some minor, but heart-related issues monday after the Eagles game. These were likely from the bottle of Sambuca he chugged after we won (or the rum&cokes or beer he was downing during the game). Alcohol obviously doesn't mix well with the blood-thinners his doc already has him on for the ticker. Anywho, he said he cant go now. He has invited me and my family to come up there and party with them like we did for the NCF Championship game. That was a great time, but I REALLY want to go to Tampa.

I have two buddies that want to go and they are willing to split the cost of the place and rental car. They are two of my best friends and normally I would jump at a chance to go to Florida with them, I just kow I would have a much better time with my dad there. They are both football nuts (one coaches a local HS team here), but neither are Card's fans. Granted they are Ravens' fans so they hate Pittsburgh with a passion, but just because you're anti-Pitt doesn't really make you all-out pro-Cardinal like me.

The question is whether I should go to Tampa or drive up to PA to my dad's house for the game. I know I'll have a blast either way, but I am not sure which would be more fun. Am I being a selfish prick even considering it since my dad says he cant fly now (he has a sinus-infection)? My buddy offered to drive his conversion van down as well. Should I just kidnap my father and little brother, throw them in the van and make a road trip out of it??

Thoughts are much appreciated.

Talk to your dad about it. I think he would want you to go to Tampa if you had the chance.

I would guess your Dad knows, but he is taking a big risk drinking alcohol on blood thinners. My main worry would be that he has a stroke. I just don't want to see a post where he's laid up in the hospital or worse.

Regardless, I hope he feels better and you have a great time in Tampa.

As someone who lost my dad earlier this year to a heart attack, I say spend it with your Dad.

To be at the Super Bowl would be amazing, but imagine celebrating a Super Bowl win with your Dad.

Just my thoughts and honestly, if my Dad were still alive, I don't know if I would feel the same way. Tough call.

Watch it with your dad. Who knows when you will be able to watch the Cards play in the SB with your dad again.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Meh. It would be one thing if you had tickets - then I would tell you to go. You don't, however, so I would say to go be with your Dad.

But that's just my opinion.

I'd say watch it with your dad. My dad turned down a free ticket to the game because he said he wanted to watch it with me, and I'd do the same.

Go to the game. Your dad of all people realizes the once in a lifetime opportunity you have here. A ticket is really no problem. From the sounds of it your dad isnt in any danger of passing so you guys can still have a celebration party after the fact whenyou return. On top of that HE WANTS you to go.

Having had my dad suddenly pass away 8 years ago, I completely agree with the statement above.

Partying in Tampa outside of a stadium we are winning a super bowl doesn't even come close to comparing to having that memory to share with your dad, and of your dad one day.

In thirty years, when you think back on the Cards first super bowl, would you rather have memories of random people on the streets of Tampa, or of your pops and you hugging like you both scored the winning touchdown?

have to agree. if there's no guarantee of actually going INTO the stadium, and you're just partying in tampa, go watch it with your father. this would be a no-brainer for me and my bros. now if we had tix to the game and pops wasn't going . . . . wow. that would be tough.

Good call, my decision is made. Mods, feel free to get this thread out of the way.

FWIW, I didn't want to give the impression that he is a sickly old man or anything. He just turned 50 last year and could still probably kick my ---.

I agree with Donald.. Having lost some big Cards fans recently (my Mom and Tim), I say share the experience with him.. Parents are always gonna tell their kids to enjoy life cuz they want you to be happy.. But I have a feeling deep down he would like to enjoy the experience with you..

It's obvious how much...

you care about your dad and are considerate of his feelings. That in itself is GREAT! That you guys have a relationship like that. My dad & I actually "bonded" over the Iowa Hawkeyes. He grew up in Iowa, I was raised in CT, but it gave us something in common. Regarding your dad, IF he REALLY wants you to go then I would say go BUT...Bring him back something extra-special so that he knows you were thinking of him. If your dad is going to be surrounded by family & friends I think he'll still have a GREAT time. I'll pray for your dad's health. Take Care! Mark :)

How true this is. My son is flying out from PA to share the SB with my wife and I. I tried to talk him out of it, to save his money for something else, etc. He however, insisted that he wouldn't miss this for the world. Needless to say, I'm excited that he is spending the SB week-end with us.

there's no way in hell we'd let pops watch that game alone after all he's done for us in our lives, the least of which was buying us tickets for the games for... well, EVER. And if there was a chance we didn't even get in to the game? There's not even a question in my mind. And even if we had tickets... screw that. This ain't the D-Backs where we could go without him. This is the freeaking Cardinals. You saw the look on Dad's face when we won the NFC Title game... it's rare to see him that happy and for him to basically watch that by himself, with no partners in crimes to yell/cheer/celebrate with... no. there's no way in hell I'd let Dad just sit at home and watch that game with Mom, Michael and Andi.

cardsnmd... you're dad is the one who also posts here, right? So he's not just a huge fan... he's a ridiculous fan like all of us are. He may tell you to go watch the game, but fans in the ridiculous club, especially family members in the ridiculous club deep down want to watch this game with birds of a feather if you know what I mean.

In the end, this is only football.

THe memory you will have of watching it with your father is far more important than the memory of being at the game, IMO.

:yeahthat:

I guess if you don't have a ticket, then you should stay, which is sounds like you are gonna do.

No need to ditch this thread. I wanna hear a post-game synopsis of how you and your dad enjoyed the game. :)
