Lakers can STILL do it! Yeah, I am the same guy that said Detroit NEEDED Carmello Anthony in order to win an NBA title! :hulk: As many people want the Lakers to lose, as many people hate them and want them to lose, that makes the Lakers that much more of a cockroach and have them scuttle through a win! ;) Last Western Conference team that looked this bad was the Houston Rockets when they won a world championship! C'mon Lakers! Clutch City! ;) Anyone who grew up when I did, does NOT want the Eastern Conference to beat the West. Not in the Championships. Not in the All Star game. Not ever! C'mon Western Conference fans! Start supporting your representative! :)

I usually cheer for the Western Conference as well, but the Lakers are one exception. I can't wait to see the Lakers blow up at each other when they lose.

I don't like washed up veterans(Malone & Payton) picking their teams(ala Chuckie Barkley/Houston) to get a championship ring.

GO DETROIT!

You've GOT to be kidding me. This isn't the Pac-10 vs. the Big 10 in the Final Four. This is the Lakers--doesn't matter which conference they're in--I'll never root for them.

I hate the Lakers.
I hope they fail miserably and have a horrible off-season filled with many, many unexpected bad fortunes.

May the fleas a thousand camels infest their nether regions.

At least the Lakers keep Suns fans interested in the Finals. This is their 28th appearance.

It's also their last for a while, so soak up that 3-1 pounding while you can!

Nice of Detroit to let the series go five games. Sweeps are so unsportsmanlike.

A win on Tuesday, for Detroit, would make history. No team has ever won the middle 3 games at home in a 2-3-2 Finals.

Not only that, but it will mark the end of the little dynasty that could.
Kobe's gone. Shaq's old. Space Cowboy wants to go fishing in Alaska.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this. It makes me giddy. Kinda feels funny, like when you go to work with a slice of bologna in each shoe.

That's true, but it's not quite as compelling a stat as you might think. How long has the 2-3-2 format been in effect, something like 12 to 15 years? And in many of those Finals, the team lacking home-court advantage (thus, the team with the 3 consecutive home games) has been quite a bit weaker than their opponents. If the series is, you know, Spurs/Nets, then of course the Nets aren't going to win three in a row, no matter where the games are played.

Chicago had the three games against Phoenix in 1993, so that might have been a chance, but of course the Suns went off and lost the first two at home, elimating the possibility of a three-game Chicago sweep by the Bulls. That Finals remains distinctive for the fact that the road team won five out of six games, which I'm pretty sure is unique.

Johnny Carson used to say something along those lines............

I hate the lakers also and hope they lose after getting all the calls in the playoffs for so many years.............

May a diseased Yak befriend all of them........(also Johnny Carson)

Not to worry, Laker faithful. There's nothing wrong with the Lakers that 7-10 years of rebuilding won't cure.

You know you are successful when you are the recipient of such unbridled hatred and envy. The Lakers set the standard for excellence in the NBA.

If any team can come back from down 3-1 it is the Lakers.

By the way, how long has Phoenix been rebuilding? Around 35 years or so?

I think you'd have to characterize the first nine years as "building." They've been "rebuilding" only since their first Finals appearance.

Typical Laker fan response (exception for LSM)...

Nobody even mentioned the Suns, and nobody has attempted to compare the Suns to the Lakers in this thread, so your unveiled attempt to "get us back" with an anti-Suns comment is pretty weak. :D

So all the threads ripping the Lakers are fine, but when someone gives it back you cry about it?

Let's keep our focus here people!!
This thread is not about the Suns. It's about squashing the small amount of desperate hope that Yuma is harboring for a miraculous (and most certainly unlikely) comeback for the Lakers.

Ok, now that we're back on track...

Remember when Karl Malone was a legitimate NBA player instead of the complete fraud that he is now? Those were the good ol' days.

Never liked Karl I always thought he was a dirty player and the most hated player in the west for some years now.
