I usually cheer for the Western Conference as well, but the Lakers are one exception. I can't wait to see the Lakers blow up at each other when they lose.

I've got 35 years invested in my hatred of the Lakers.

The only thing that comes close to making me as happy as a Suns win is a Lakers loss.

I root for 2 NBA teams. The Suns and whoever is playing the Lakers!

If I were a Lakers fan I wouldn't worry about the finals instead I would worry what my team will look like next year. Will Shaq even want to stay around when he is by himself???

Sorry. I grew up in Detroit and I am loving it watching the Fakers implode when they run into some defense. Bad Boys are back and they mean business...

I like Karl, for the most part. I mean, I'd let him lend me $50,000 if need be, or maybe I'd spit on him if his hair were on fire. But other than that, we strictly have a professional relationship.

He'll rue the day he knocked Elliot Perry silly.

I don't even know where I'm going with this anymore. All I know is that I hate the Lakers.

So all the threads ripping the Lakers are fine, but when someone gives it back you cry about it?
:violin:

no, recognize the history of the lakers is superior to the suns (that's what happens when the league ensures that the best centers of each era play in one of the biggest television markets), and we recognize that they are better than the suns right now. but none of that takes away the glee that we enjoy watching your boys get bent over and having an elden campbell rammed up their . . . woooooohoooooo!

This thread is not about the Suns. It's about squashing the small amount of desperate hope that Yuma is harboring for a miraculous (and most certainly unlikely) comeback for the Lakers.

Ok, now that we're back on track...

Remember when Karl Malone was a legitimate NBA player instead of the complete fraud that he is now? Those were the good ol' days.

i like seeing him drag his mangina up and down the court now.

I used to respect Karl Malone for the hard way he played all the time every game.

I did not like the Elliot Perry hit though.

But when he went out of his way to hit that player (name??) in the playoffs this year, I lost all respect for him forever. He has turned into a thug.
Maybe he always was and I did not see it?

I hear ya, man. I pretty much feel the same way about the Yankees.

Win or lose, there will be big changes in Laker Land, in all probability. I would bet the farm that Shaq isn't going anywhere, so I guess it wil be Kobe if anybody. I still think Shaq can be the most dominant force in the league and that it will be easier to re-build around Shaq than it will Kobe.

I think Phil Jackson will be back also.

But remember, Kobe has promised a win on Tuesday. :)

You've GOT to be kidding me. This isn't the Pac-10 vs. the Big 10 in the Final Four. This is the Lakers--doesn't matter which conference they're in--I'll never root for them.

No doubt. The only times I have cheered for the Lakers was when they faced the New Jersey Nets a couple years ago in the finals (at that point I hated Jason Kidd more than anyone in the NBA) and when they played Utah many years ago in the playoffs (I have always hated Karl Malone).

I could care less in which conference Detroit plays. They are facing the Lakers, so I cheer for them.

Down with the Lakers! Down with Karl Malone! Down with Gary Payton! Down with Col. Sanders... I mean Phil Jackson!

couldn't say it better myself. And Joe as far as that Nets-Lakers series - we weren't "cheering for the Lakers" - we were CHEERING AGAINST THE NETS - at least that's what I had to tell myself to keep the shame from settling in . . . it's still what I tell myself - that was the worst - my friends - after Game 7 of the Sacto-LA series have both me and Ouchie proclaiming how much we wanted to see the Lakers win the Finals - I need to find that tape and burn it, burn it the ground - SO THE PHOENIX CAN RISE FROM THE ASHES WITH KOBE BRYANT AND AMARE! That's the best thing about this whole series - not only do Karl Malone and Gary Payton truly look like the losers they so classically are - but we - THE SUNS - are gonna hammer that coffin shut when we take Kobe from them and go on to dominate the league.

I can tell you guys are MUCH younger than I am. I grew up with the Eastern Conference as THE dominant conference. As a result, the Suns, Lakers, etc., were ALL seen as JV teams to the East! You guys come along later and see the Lakers as always being the dominant team in the NBA. You grew up not having the West facing any adversity. If you grew up when I did, watching the East kick sand in the West's face all the time, you would relish ANY Western Conference team, EVEN THE HATED LAKERS, beating the East. It's akin to the USA vs. the world. You may not like all the players on your team, but you want them to beat everyone they are playing! :)

How old are you? In the last quarter century, the only three Eastern franchises to win titles are Boston, Chicago, and Detroit.

Edit: Oops, and Philadelphia, once.

That's misleading, look at how many and what years the Boston Celtics have won titles!!

at the ripe old age of 35 i can remember the celtics, pistons, and bulls championships, but never did it seem like the eastern conference was dominant, just that they had the single best team. i think it's arguable that even during those years the weight of talent was in the west with the single best team in the east.

i just can't hate the lakers enough. i respect their talent, but hate em.

For the first 14 years of my life, my formative years before I got jobs after work, the Eastern conference won 10 of 14 NBA Championships. Unless I counted wrong, they are still ahead in NBA Championships in my lifetime. They were definatly dominant in my formative youth, where I came to HATE the Eastern Conference. Besides, I grew up out west, and anything from the East is bad anyway! ;)
