If not Kolb, what other options did we have? We were absolutely desperate for a QB after the 2010 season. Was there another option that we passed on that looking back would have been better? If not for all the injuries on the offensive side of the ball, this team could easily be looking at a 10 win season. I'm all for keeping Whiz for another year, but I'm a firm believer that once a team quits, it's almost impossible to get them back. Up until last week, this team was still pretty much competitive (only because of the D). Throw in the Dockett/Rhodes situation & the D seems to have quit. This upcoming week will say a lot about Whiz's future here. No matter what, the O has NOTHING & will produce NOTHING. If the team as a whole is competitive, then Whisenhunt deserves some praise. If the team looks anything like last week, then the decision is easier to make. That being said, we will regret it when we see Whisenhunt succeed elsewhere, because he will. OUR OWNERSHIP SUCKS! Under Bill Bidwill, it always has & always will. Replacing Whiz will do NOTHING to improve matters. We can only hope for 2 things: 1. Bill Bidwill's time as the ultimate decision maker here comes to an end SOON & 2. That Michael is the exact opposite of his father. Anything short of that & future generations of Cardinal fans will experience the same pain as my 50 years as a fan have. Bottom line, NO coach can succeed long term here!!

Alex Smith and Matt Hasselback would have been cheaper contracts and zero trade compensation.

Kyle Boller, Jake Delhomme, Trent Edwards, Charlie Frye, Bruce Gradkowski, J.P. Losman, Josh McCown, Matt Moore, Billy Volek... All would've been just as capable of leading us to a 1-5 record to begin 2012. Larry Fitzgerald might've been unhappy, but he'd have to assuage his pain and doubts on his $100 million contract where he got $40 million in the first two years.

I'm probably in the tiniest of minorities, but I still think Whis is the right guy for the job. Just need a QB, and returning OL, and he'll get this thing turned around. Yeah, it's been tough, but I think he gets one more season next year and will get the pieces in place.

Unfortunately he seems to have lost all confidence of the team and fans. If he is not gone I will be very surprised.

It sure looked like the players had quit on Whiz in the Seattle game to me. If so, coach has to go. It's far easier to replace a coach than it is to find an entire new roster that will actually listen to him.

Where the heck did this Bickley comment from the same article come from?

?????

The article is sloppy - the question that we may or may not know the answer - how is personnel brought into the organization?

We do not seem cheap when we throw too much money at the likes of Kolb and Bradley, so I don't buy that perspective.

Hoyer was JUST NOW brought on - so is that a Whiz decision and he avoided bringing in a QB all season? or did the FO not want to put any money at QB and force him this hand? did they bring in Hoyer without regard to Whiz, basically trumping his roster control?

The problem I see is NO ONE STOPPED WHIS from signing Kolb, a ton of people, myself included did not like that one, never, and I mean never trade with Andy Reid.

This means we have no one in our organization that knows anything about QB's either that or they have him tied up in a closet somewhere.
you're really under the impression that you know more about player evaluation than the Cardinals front office? Getting Kolb was a good move. I still believe so. Signing him to that insane contract however, absolutely was not. The ONLY way that contract makes sense IMO, is if Fitz requested they lock him up in order for him to re-sign
If not Kolb, what other options did we have?
there were a few. Kolb was the best. I wanted Orton though, as I thought he was still a good option and wouldn't cost as much

that IS an interesting statement to make. Especially when I was under the impression that there was something like a 98% salary floor last year

exactly my sentiments. If he lost his team, as it appears, I don't see any other way

Is it already this time of year? Yes, there are knowledgeable fans on this board who are superior talent evaluators to the Cardinals Front Office. Scouts and personnel people don't have some special eye; a lot of them are looking at the same film we are.

The contracts guy the Cards fired last May used to cut promos for the production department.

WOW!! I guess some people are as blind to the problem as our coach is!

Something from someone who may a thing or two you don't.

... And, no doubt, we know who includes himself in this list of superior talent evaluators. You can make so much sense at times, then we are reminded of your delusions of adequacy.

The worst part of that Bickley article is that Todd Haley was mentioned as a replacement.

I would appreciate it if you addressed me directly on these things. :)

he also keeps mentioning how we might play our way out of being able to get Barkley... as if that's a BAD thing.

I'd have to go on hiatus. At least I'd save money on the Sunday ticket and going to games, becasue they'd both be out.

Bickley is an idiot. A few years ago there was a thread about him obviously reading this site (I think it was Linder or Jersey that had him nailed). I've yet to read one column of his that makes me think he's any smarter than anyone on this board. Nine year old fans are more astute.

He wrote "Carroll didn't mind rubbing salt in the wound". Again. Bickley is an idiot. Carroll takes cheap shots and goes for the low blow. It's what he does. He's the kid on the playground who cheats, gets caught and says, "Who me? I didn't do it. He did it. And if I did it, he made me do it." And people like Bickley believe his press releases.

Anyone who would write "Carroll didn't mind" should have his "sportswriter" card taken from him and burned. And for that alone I don't see how anyone could pay any special attention to his opinions. The whole keep/fire Whiz thing aside, guy's a dope.

I'm not writing this to say whether he is a good sportswriter or not. It's a matter of opinion and everybody is gonna have one of those, lol. But I'm glad he reads these forums. I hope every cards writer, and member of the organization does too. I hope they care enough about the opinions of the fans to follow what the fans are actually saying. I would say it's a quality to respect, not the other way around (thinking "I don't need to concern myself with what other fans have to say. My thoughts trump all and are always right") which is how it is with many writers

I guess we should start filling out applications then. Hell, I'd do it for 1/2 what any of em get paid. Now THAT would be a job that I would truly LOVE
