Hate to say it but your sales guys was just plain stupid. Not for recommending the PS3 but for saying the 360 is just for FPS?! Sounds like sales guys trying to make a push for a particular product to me.

If any of them had done any game library research (including reviews), you would see the 360 is superior in just about every category in terms of game categories. The available game library and developer support says it all.

The PS3 game library is not only pathetic but many of the same games on the PS3 suffer from piss poor frame rates compared to the 360 counterparts. I could start a list of examples.

I am not saying you made a mistake but there is a reason the PS3 is in 3rd place in the console wars right now and doesn't nearly have the developer support the 360 does at the current moment.

Hardware issues for 360 is no longer an issue. XBOX LIVE Arcade blows PSN away. Blu Ray is no incentive because of the format war. Nuff said there.

However, if your happy that's all that counts. The PS3 does have some cool games. Just don't hang your hat on some asshat from the stores that obviously had no clue what they were talking about.

I agree with almost everything Steel has said here. (except the format war thing :) )

Don't take the advice of FYI, Gamestop, Fry's, etc. They get paid to push a specific product. Talk to people who actually own the product.

I just bought one today too Chris the 40GB I got Tiger Woods, resistance, and Lair to go with it.. Now I have a PS3, X360, and 3 HD-DVD players in the house. GOODLORD I blow a lot of money!

You and me both. Good choice, although if you want PS1/PS2 backwards compatibility, you are SOL. It flat out doesn't support it, which sucks.

Fry's, Gamestop, and FYE all said it. I would have taken one person with a grain of salt. I didn't take the purchase lightly.

XBox live doesn't really do anything for me because it is unlikely I will play on the internet much. The Blue Ray was the big seller. It might not be to you, but I want to use my $1500 TV to it's maximum.

I am not saying the PS3 is better overall. I am saying it fit my needs better. So far I am 100% happy with it and the games I have.

I think you will be happy with it.

Let me know how Lair is. It looked pretty cool but the sales girl at Best Buy recommended Folklore over it.

Fry's, Gamestop, and FYE all said it.
You went to all three to quiz the employees before the purchase, and not only that, you went to FYE to ask their seasonal, $6 per hour employees their expert advice? I've also never bothered to ask the sales girl at Best Buy her video game advice. That must be why I don't understand why anyone would like a PS3 for anything other than a Blu Ray player. I get it now.

Xbox vs. PS3. I'll try to break this down in an honest way. I had the PS2 as did everyone else. When it came out it was a no brainer. It was backwards compatible with the PS1, it played DVDs, the games looked great. There really wasn't any debate at that point. Then the Xbox came out and the first time I played one I thought, this thing is big, the controller is big, you need a stupid add on to play dvds, no thanks. Months went by without a second thought. Then I started reading some things about Xbox Live and the fact that every game would offer voice chat and an easy online lobby.I then started reading reviews of games to compare graphics and what not to the PS2 and almost every review would talk about how much better graphically the game was on the Xbox. Then I would read things about the hard drive and how you could play your own music while you were playing a game, so on my birthday, my parents asked me what I wanted as a gift and jokingly I said an Xbox. Well, they got me one, and instantly I noticed major differences between it and the PS2. The games looked better, they were faster, and you could do so much more. When Xbox Live came out there was nothing the PS2 had that could even compare. Playing ESPN 2K whatever live was the best thing ever on a fall Sunday. I did attempt to play ESPN online with a PS2 one time and my friend and I waited over 30 minutes to get a game going. So I was sold on Xbox at that point and never looked back. I got it modded later with every old school Nintendo and Super Nintendo game, and hundreds of old arcade games, and I could burn Xbox games onto the hard drive, something that PS2 could never, ever, do.

So Xbox 360 comes out, graphics rule, interaction with my computer as a media center is amazing, the games are easily the best and it has the deepest game catelog on the market, and I've been playing high def games on Xbox Live for 2 years, along with playing HD DVDS for over 8 months with the add on that I chose to buy to play movies, and doing many other things with the machine that others don't know how to do like watching Pirates of the Caribbean in HD.

So am I an Xbox 360 blind fan boy? I don't think so. I did the Playstation thing, but Xbox came along and I compared both and made a choice based on what I thought was the better system. With the 360 and the PS3, the 360 came out first, the PS3 hasn't had any games that have made me give it a second thought. All I know is what I've read, that the first party games have been average so far, and that 3rd party support is slipping, and sales have been abysmal. I wouldn't mind getting one at some point for the Blu Ray player and for the web browser, but I don't see the point right now. There hasn't been anything with the PS3 that has made me think about buying it, like Xbox Live made me think about Xbox back in the day, except for Blu Ray, and that could be a non-issue in a matter of months.

The girl was a gamer, owns the PS3, and has played many of the games. Why wouldn't I ask her her opinion? Again, every bit of advice I received from the various sales staff turned out to be helpful and accurate.

Not quite.

Sales rep: Do you like to play online shooter games?

Answer: Not really.

Sales rep: Don't waste your money on the 360

This isn't accurate. Sports games play better on 360 than the PS3.

See this is great that the XBox works for you. You online game enough that you are willing to pay for it. I don't really care about playing online and wouldn't pay for it anyway.

I wanted the Blu Ray player, you already have an HDDVD (Obviously I didn't.) I did look at the cost of the HDDVD upgrade to the XBox but that put the cost over the 40g PS3.

You are willing to repeatedly have your XBox replaced from failure. I wouldn't.

Different machines for different people. I really don't care about all the 360 games. The games I was interested in playing the PS3 has.

I was told that as well. Unfortunately I don't play EA games anymore after they screwed over Sega. I did get the NBA 08 for free with my PS3 and that was the only basketball game I wanted.

EDIT: Again let me stress I will never...ever buy a Madden game again in my lifetime.

Oh and the Best Buy girl I never asked her opinion which system she preferred, though she did own both. I had already made up my mind, which is why I went to Best Buy to get the PS3 (better bundle).

I got the system at the Tempe Marketplace one. I am sure that particular sales girl is quite popular at work. Young, cute, loves to play video games. :p

The hardware failure has been an issue for me. The first time I was livid and I contemplated selling the 360 and buying a PS3 until I realized how much I liked a working 360 and how much I have invested. I couldn't really justify getting rid of something I enjoyed for a small inconvenience, especially to replace it with a system getting bashed repreatedly by critics. As far as the price is concerned with the add on vs the PS3, you have to remember that until recently the PS3 was $600 which was never an option for me. My 360 was $400 when I bought it, but I played the hell out of it for over a year before the PS3 was even out. I bought the add on later but only after I decided I wanted HD DVD so the price at least for me was a push at the time. Different consoles for different people says it best. I do want a taste of Blu Ray but not for $400. A $200 stand alone would be ideal.

Seriosuly, Best Buy employees are idiots, irregardless of how hot they are. Their opinions don't mean crap.

Okay...

I know a lot of people who worked at Best Buy at one time. I wouldn't say any of them are idiots. You are pretty set in your opinions about things :D

I hear you on this issue. ESPN football games were head and shoulders above the Madden ones. I will never spend more than $20 for a Madden game.

Strong in my opinions, but not set. I switched from PS2 to Xbox. ESPN 2K5 was the best NFL game ever made, and it was just added to the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list.

No offense to those wonderfully knowledgeable employees at those stores but they are dead wrong. Take if from a person that has a library of non-FPS games and someone who plays the PS3 all the time with my brother. There is no library category in which the PS3 beats the 360. NONE.

To call the XBOX 360 a FPS system is uneducated. Now if you wanted to say the XBOX 360 has the best FPS on any system then that would have been more accurate.

It's good though that your happy. I just wouldn't hang my hat on a format that might go away that's all. I hear you about wanting to use your high def TV to the max. I agree though, there really is no point to owning a high def TV unless you have high definition TV signals going into it, a high def gaming system or high def DVD format.

The PS3 is not a bad system by any stretch. In fact, I think the PS3 will start to get more developer support as the system continues to come down in price.

As a person who has grown up playing every game system, I really think XBOX sucks. I don't like first person shooters, but I did pick up COD4 to hold me over until the new Socom: Confrontation comes out.

I put XBOX lovers right up there with Windows is better than OSX kind of people, they are stuck in there ways and don't know what they are missing out on.

When Socom comes out (eventually in 2008), you'll see people jumping on the PS3 bandwagon...

XBOX sucks?? Then your not a gamer. It's easily the best system for hardcore gamers bar none. I have owned every generation of every system since the original Nintendo system. EVERY GENERATION. This is the first generation that I didn't buy every system. I own the 360 and the Wii. What does that say when I passed on the Playstation for the first time in 3 generations? I love my XBOX 360 but I love game consoles in general. I am only loyal to the system with the best gaming experience.

It did help that my brother bought a launch PS3 and it was at my house for about 6 months. I got to experience both systems and I can say...there was no compelling reason to buy a machine with an inferior game library and play the same games available on the 360 but at 30 FPS versus the 360's 60 FPS. Not to mention the same games in almost every case looked better on the 360. Oh and it didn't have a robust online presence or market place. Not sure what I am missing out on there.

I think MS haters are missing out more then us "XBOX lovers".

Oh and XBOX pushed a record number of consoles and sales with HALO 3 already. SOCOM will not come even close in those sales and it will not push sales of the PS3 like it did on the 360 if historical sales of both games are any indication.

You just seriously made my day. I cannot wait to go home and fire it up. I've been waiting for this!

I just finished Resistance: Rise of Man. I played it on normal. I can't imagine hard since some of those fights were crazy at the end.

I have had Resistance Fall of Man for a while but I haven't beaten it yet. I can only play a couple levels at a time before the game gives me a headache. :(
