If Andrew Walter is available in the second round do the Cards take him?

I don't know if Andrew would last that far but do the Cards take a shot at him if he is available?

hmmm 2nd round for Walter? Too high IMO to pick him. "If" he last 3rd round sure.

Walter is a LOSER - plain and simple. Throws a nice deep spiral and absolutely doesn't show up in his only big games of the season (USC, Cal and UofA).

I don't want him.

Wish him the best in the NFL though.

may go in the third round - depends on how well he throws before the draft. If he still can't throw before the draft, then all bets are off. Had surgury on his throwing shoulder so he's very suspect at this point.

The earliest I would touch him is the fourth round. He's a big kid with a strong arm who sometimes makes some terribly stupid decisions, he's an absolute stiff in the pocket and his accuracy is questionable. BUT he does have a lot of the physical attributes(aside from mobility) that you look for in a pro QB and seems smart enough that with good coaching he might turn in to a good NFL QB...worth a risk but not a first day pick, especially with the injury.

Nope.

Wouldn't want him at all but especially that high. Injury to throwing shoulder and he's not all that good IMO.

Very much like Devil Alumni Jake Plummer except for the big kid with a strong arm part.

I think

we'll look for an FA that comes available. Not in the Brees or Bledsoe range. someone who comes up by June. First to keep Josh from getting comfortable and second for a solid back up. For som,e reason I just don't see us taking a QB until late if at all.

Unless Josh just really, really stinks it up the next 2 games I would do just that, get a decent backup or starter if Josh implodes again next year.

I agree. After seeing Navarre in action, I don't think the Cards would take Walter since they are so similar. Walter does have some uncanny accuracy with the deep ball, but I think Navarre has a stronger arm.

Andrew Walter is half the QB Navarre is. 4-6th round draft for backup by somebody other than the Cards, PLEASE.

It's interesting that the same scouts who rated Navarre a 5th round to undrafted QB had Walter rated late 1st early 2nd before his injury and yet so many on the board think Walter is worse than Navarre? Is it ASU backlash?

Most of the arguments against Walter, mobility, bad decisions, not playing well in big games, are the very same knocks people had on Navarre. Pre injury his arm was better than Navarre's no idea if it will be now.

I think without the injury he'd have gone several rounds higher than Navarre did, now too hard to tell depends on how far along his rehab is by the draft. I'm not a huge fan of his but I find it surprising how many people seem to love navarre, and hate Walter.

Walter will be a Raider next year.
Raiders were talking highly of him prior to the injury.

So was Green Bay.

He won't be a Cardinal.

I can't picture Green taking another QB with mobility issues. If he does draft a qb, look for it to be a high profile athletic type that can be ready to play next year. Other than that I would expect him to pick up a free agent. He wants players that can play now.

Go to profootballreference.com

Look up Green with the Vikings and see how many mobile QB's he had and how long they lasted. Culpepper is the only one he's ever played for very long. This is the guy who benched Gannon for Sean Salisbury, Green has traditionaly NOT liked mobile QB's. Culpepper may have changed his mind some, but Navarre is really a lot closer to the traditional Green QB.

josh has the arm but I always found it odd that Green was talking about his running ability given Greens' track record with QB's.

I am certainly no Walter lover, but I have watched every one of his games, and to compare him to Navarre is just ridiculous. Walter does some things extremely well, his deep balls are excellent, he has unbelieveable touch on some of his throws, and when he has time, he can destroy an opponent. Navarre is effective with short throws, but his accuracy diminishes quite a bit on longer routes. While not a mobile quarterback, Walter is pretty evasive, and feels pressure in the pocket well, ala Big Ben. Again, like most qb's, when under pressure, he is far less effective, and he does throw some bad picks, but he is a pretty solid prospect. If available in the second round I would consider taking a flyer on him.

That's more in line with what NFL scouts said about him before the injury.

I think we're all just a bit leery of ASU QB's around here.

I understand that, but Plummer and Walter are apples and oranges. Plummer is a better scrambler and more clutch, but his inablility to read defenses and potential to throw the killer interception make his potential to be a top qb very low.

Walter has all the tools, and from what I've seen, he has unbelieveable touch, especially with deep balls. He is also quite adept at finding the open reciever, a skill that most of our qb's have lacked. I think if protected with the Cards, he would tear it up throwing to our recievers. (Perhaps we can get a 2 for 1 pick, and get Zach Miller as well, who looks like he'll be better than Todd Heap) :D

I just meant I think that's why so many are either down on him or comparing him to Navarre. As I said earlier in the thread the same scouts who weren't very high on Navarre, have Walter rated high 2nd late 1st round pick. If he's healthy I think he's a much safer bet than Navarre and much more of a "Green" QB than Josh.

Of course he's not ready to play and they apparently are. I don't think we'll take him but I know Bobcat has been touting him.

Watch Kyle Orton of Purdue against ASU in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31. I truly believe this guy would have won the Heisman if he hadn't gotten injured this year.

He looks a lot like Peyton Manning - right down to the last-minute play-calling at the line of scrimmage. Threw for over 2,800 yards this season, even through he missed all or part of two or three games. Over 500 yards passing against Indiana U.
