I don't know how my wife will react on Sundays in the fall.

She has grown so accustomed to me being in such a bitter mood and a complete wreck after the terrible frequent losses.

I actually think this may help our marriage. I won't be so pissed off and she won't wonder if she did anything wrong.

Seriously folks, this is something that I really haven't thought of before.

in 1998, it was all & great - but everyone knew we were mere points from going 5-11 or worse again. i never felt "we were actually there" among the respected teams in the league.

but i have a feeling that the plan in place will change things around and venture my emotions and blood pressure into unkown territories.

Dont count those Cardinals before they hatch. If they hatch it may be not be until 05 or 06.

good point. thanks for the buzzkill :) . my bad on the premature jubilation. i tend to get a little giddy this time of year.

you've just saved me from being totally ridiculed by my wife when i get home:

"You say this every year - c'mon man smart'en up will ya?"

:biglaugh:

i think this is needed - so i can't be blamed now in case they don't do well this season

If Denny's prediction is right and the Cards make the playoffs and win the division, I will buy a keg for the game for those that want to come over. And oh yeah, Section 11, party will have to be at your house!! Got enough cups and how is your 52" plasma TV?? :D

Every year about this time we have our dreams of glory in the comming season. The facts still do not support a good year for us. We start with an untested QB. A very suspect defensive backfield. Some good rookies but they are still rookies. A new coach with a new system and a team composed largely of players who did not perform last year. This is not the makings of a playoff team. I also dream but I fear reality will set in come September. We have not signed anyone of consequence since June. Green is talking the talk (So did Buddy) and I hope he can deliver. He has not coached in a while and certainly not team with the history of the Cards.

I would like to add....

look what Lewis did for Cinci, what the Tuna did for Cowpukes, and what Fox did for the Panthers. If they can do it why can't DG?

I am not a stats/draft lookup guru but I think DG can turn this team around with the players we have/had.

IF (and I mean big IF) DG was coach last year for our Cards... hell I think we could have easily been an 8-8 team with the schedule we had. The three games I saw made me believe that the coaching was the biggest problem IMO.

Out of all those teams you mentioned they have talent on the defensive side of the ball except the Bengals. When Parcells came into the cowpukes they are already a top 5 defense. And the Panthers were already comming together in their defense. We don't have the horses like the Panthers and Cowpukes not yet anyway IMO.

I have absolutly no doubt that Denny will turn this franchise around.

Will he get us into the playoffs this year, hmmm, I hope so but frankly that will need a lot of hard work (which I am seeing), better coaching (which I am seeing), plus some luck.

We need some luck and a healthy Starks, given both I think there is a chance. Next year is a different story.

Maybe... maybe not, I am not trying to say that we have players like the Panthers or the Cowpukes but what we do have is a respectable coaching staff now. I loved Mac but we were totally let down by his lack of disipline with his players. He would rather be their friend than Coach (so it seemed).

All I am trying to say is that I have more faith that DG can turn this team around with the players we have than really any of the coaches out there that were available.

Don't get me wrong but I think were about 2 years away with good drafting and signing good FA. I have faith in DG rebuilding this team and he was the right hire for the Cards.

No worries. If/when Dennis Green turns the Cardinals into a consistently over .500 team and perennial playoff contender, it won't take long before the Cards faithful start getting frustrated by wildcard eliminations, or division-round losses, or coming up short in the conference championship. Just ask Green how grateful the Minnesota fans were for seeing the Vikes in the playoffs almost every year during his tenure there.

Take it from me, as someone whose "other" NFL team is the Miami Dolphins. 9-7, 10-6, even 11-5 seasons that don't lead to anything can get old real fast. And you'll find yourself screaming for ownership to fire a coach like Dave Wannstedt, whose four-year record coaching your team is 41-23, with playoff appearances in two seasons and near misses the other two.

Every dog has its fleas. You'll still get to be demoralized and bitter. You'll just have to wait for the end of the season, instead of the sixth or seventh week. ;)

I would much prefer the Dolphins record to ours, thank you.

I think everyone here would rather be spoiled by .500+ teams and losing in the playoffs than not.

But in the NFL it can happen this year. Just look at past teams and how they improved with a coaching change. Also remeber we really don't know how good our guy's really are, because of the past coaching staff we just got ride of.

Not that it really matters but it will be interesting to see how the fans of other teams and the media react when the Cards start winning. I think they will fall over themselves saying "I have always loved the Cards" or some BS like that. I bet Sean Salisbury will be the first to say "I told you so"

Hang on everyone..............here we come.

If we reach the playoffs this year I can almost see the Bandwagoners coming to the games.

Well, that's sort of the idea, isn't it? Otherwise, that nice new stadium's gonna look awfully empty, a couple of years from now.

I wouldn't expect to see any "Cardinal love" from national sportswriters. If/ when the Cards start putting some wins together, all the commentary will be about Dennis Green, and how he single-handedly revived a moribund franchise. If the Redskins and Giants also have good seasons under Joe Gibbs and Tom Coughlin, the story will be how three previously successful head coaches returned to the league and brought these teams back.

And if Salisbury plays the "told you so" card, it'll be because he predicted that his former coach would get the same results in Arizona that he did in Minnesota. (Just out of curiosity, has he predicted that?)
