I am signing Michael Johnson to play OLB. 6'7 270 and essentially our version of Aldon Smith. He is a 7 mil per season player, but if I am looking to add length and speed up front, this is the guy I am adding.

Better run stuffer than pass rusher. If i'm paying 7 mil/season for an OLB, who's now a 4-3 DE, I want him to be a perennial threat to get to the QB.

Big, freak athlete on the outside...11.5 sacks in 2012. I will take the chance as he is 27 years old.

I remember wanting him badly when he was draft eligible. That he fell to round 3(I think) is ridiculous. It will be interesting what the Bengals do. They have the room to re-sign him. I've read Atl is very interested.

chopper, if we sign Johnson, and probably won't, I hope we don't go OLB in the first round. Too many other needs.

Pick up Lamarr Houston from the Raiders and move Calais to OLB. Let's see the LT's try to block 93.

I should have said that I doubt we spend the money to make it happen, but Michael Johnson does seem to fit the length/speed philosophy of Arians and Keim. I just wanted to point out he could possibly be one of their FA targets. Corey Wooten fits as well.

Hell, an offseason of

Re-signing
ILB - Karlos Dansby

Signing
OLB - Michael Johnson
OT - Roger Saffold
S - Malcolm Jenkins
TE - Heath Miller (when he is cut)

Draft
1-Stephon Tuitt - DE (trade back)
2-Jack Mewhort - OT
3-Bashaud Breeland - CB
4-Robert Herron - WR

would be great.

Heath Miller restructured his contract today, so he is likely off the market. Regarding Johnson, what is wrong with Shaughnessy? He is 6-5, 285 and played OLB in several formations last year. He only made $1 million, even if you doubled his salary to $2 million I think he is still a bargain. Plus you know he can play the position instead of running the risk that Johnson has trouble making the change from DE.

I don't have anything against Johnson, just feel we could do a little better for $7 million a year.
