I think Mike is a great coach and I hope we get to keep him, but the possibility of him leaving is growing everyday. So I ask, if he leaves, who do you want to see coaching this team?

I ask because there aren't many coaches available, at least not that many that can improve this team's defense drastically.

I would like to see Jeff Van Gundy, because he would focus on defense and probably get us past the Spurs if need be. But, he doesn't want to coach...

Then there is Doug Collins, who I find myself loving as a broadcaster. He is so intelligent and I think he would make a good coach. But, he doesn't want to coach...

Who else is there?

We aren't going for Avery Johnson :barf:thank God.

Not too many guys out there.

*I apologize if creating another thread was wrong, I just wanted a thread where we can discuss possible coaching candidates without having to discuss D'Antoni.*

How about a trade: D'Antoni and Nash to Toronto for Mitchell and Calderon?

Whats up with everyone in Phoenix not wanting to go for Avery?

Avery is the shiz.. He actually coaches defense. He'll expose Nash more and make a better player of Barbosa.

1. Avery
2. Jeff Van Gundy
3. [Whoever comes cheapest for Sarver]

IMO, not much to chose from unless Sarver already has someone lined up. I understand JVG has no interest in the job, the Suns apparently do not want Avery and Doug Collins from all indications wants to remain an announcer.

Let's see, the Suns could hire an interim coach and save some money.

lol @ phil collins.

Yeah Doug would crap his pants if we even called him.. He loves Nash and the offense. But i think he'll be too busy bleaching his hair to coach.

You mean Doug Collins? I think Phil Collins is too busy making crappy records to coach the Suns, but it might be worth a try. :D

I caught it and already changed it. Phil Collins has had a nice musical career. I really like his greatest hits. Sadly, he probably cannot coach. :)

From the thread when Gentry was originally hired (May 30, 2004):

Whew, that's a relief. I was wondering who the coach will be after D'Antoni gets fired.

I think Gentry did a good job with the hand he was dealt in L.A. and I'm optimistic about what he'll do as head coach of the Suns, when that time comes.

Of course I was laughed off the board, but what else is new.

Heh, the getting laughed off the board part was much easier to predict... ;)

If we end up with Gentry your signature should be "Nostradamus" or something like that.

Any other fearless predictions?

I could make it my rank.

Unfortunately, like Nostradamus, I have a pretty low batting average, even after inflating my stats with safe predictions that pretty much anyone can see coming.

That's why I have to trump up my occasional hits, or near-hits, of course.

Gentry would be qualified, I just don't think Sarver would go for it. He would be putting about 5-10K seats on Gentry, I don't see him as that type of risk taker- meaning high risk/low instant reward.
