If the Baltimore Trade Goes Through: What Would You Do?

The Cardinals would possess the #26, #31, #63, #88, #95, #131, #167, #204, # 240, #254 picks in the 2009 Draft.

The guidelines are: You must go to www.drafttec.com and you can only take a player that is on the board at each spot in their 7 Round Mock.

Here's what I would do, with explanations:

#26: Chris Wells, RB, Ohio St. Moreno is off the board. Wells is too talented to pass up. After calling Wells to congratulate him, we call Edge and wish him happy trails in his Lambourgini.

#31: Connor Barwin, OLB34, Cincinnati. I love this guy. I think he's the DRC (special athlete) of this draft. Brings edge speed, tackling ferocity and tenacity.

#63: James Casey, TE, Rice. Best hands in the draft, period. Can take over as the Cardinals' best over the middle threat now that Q is a Raven.

#88: Cody Brown, OLB34, Connecticut. Surprised to see him on the board, and in many ways is a great compliment to Barwin. I eventually see Brown on the strong side and Barwin on the weak side.

#95: Pat White, QB, West Virginia. This Wildcat will be Whiz's pet project...will add to Warner's longevity by taking a series in each half and some snaps in the red zone. And, get this. I think he can be the kickoff returner, to boot. Such a fine athlete and would become an instant fan favorite. And who knows? Maybe in three years he could develop as an everydown QB.

#131: Scott McKillop, ILB34, Pittsburgh. Much need tackler inside to back up Hayes and Dansby. Should be very good on STs too. Will be a very good starter in a year or two.

#167: Brandon Underwood, FS/CB, Cincinnati. This Ohio St. transfer has the size and speed to be a major factor in nickel and dime packages, as an over the top FS or as a cover CB.

#204: Brennan Marion, WR, Tulsa. Injured his knee at the end of his second stellar season at Tulsa where he averaged over 1,000 yards, over 20 ypc, and over 10 TDs a year.

#240: Ray Feinga, G, BYU. Very good drive blocker. Needs to improve pass protection skills...but will have RG to get him there.

#254: Tiquan Underwood, WR, Rutgers. Mike McNulty brought him along nicely at Rutgers where he was a star in his last two games including a Bowl win. Is PS bound but could move up in a year or two.

OK Mitch you got me. Sign me up for Wells, Barwin, Casey and Brown. I also do like White as a project that could really become like Randal El instead of a QB but he has so much talent that he can be used in many different ways. I think you do have to take him in the bottom of the third (as your did) as he would be gone by our pick in the 4th. I also do like McKillops, beyond that it's a crap shoot.

My only recommendation is to try to get in a center like A.Q Shipley from Penn State if he falls.

Bottom line is this really would make the Boldin trade worthwhile if these players are there.

Love the draft all the way through. The Pat White pick is questionable, but the risk/reward ratio is so good that he has to be considered there on potential alone. Besides, after the 2nd round it gets to be a real crap-shoot anyways. I don't know if we will be able to get all the players you listed at the spot you had them, but if we did I would give that draft an A+ and pick us to dominate the NFC West for at least the next 5 years.

the only way the Q trade works for our franchise is if we pick up a pro bowl type player simple as. For me it has to lead to one of the top two backs getting drafted to without this being seen as a step back for our franchise.

Then pay lip service to the NFL Draft (because of my obligation to keep the BRS current). But - unless the deal was a whole lot sweeter than a #26 and #88 - probably with a lot less enthusiasm.

Sometime after that - depending on who we drafted and how well we were doing - I might work my way out of the doldrums, but can't be sure how long it would take.

Incidently (and with all due respect) I just reviewed everyone's updated mocks after the conjectured trade and immediately tossed my cookies.

If they are able to start a bidding war, I would like to see Mark Clayton thrown into the mix. A 1st, 3rd, and Clayton for Boldin seems plausible to me.

First thing I would do would be to try and trade as many of those picks as possible for picks in the 2010 and 2011 drafts.

Why would we want that many this year when our roster is so strong.

Heck we could conceivably start 19 of the 22 projected starters for 2009 for the next 5 years. The right side of the oline and TE for another 10. We have 9 guys that could still be starting for the Cards in 2016.

We'll have a much bigger need for 2nd and 3rd year players in 2012,13,& 14.
