If the Dansby report is true (going to CLE) what do we do with that extra 6Mil?

Ian Rapoport is reporting the Cards think they are out on Dansby. If that's the case, we entered FA with 21+Mil in cap space (including the Colledge money) and assuming we sign Veldeheer for 7+Mil/year, that means we have roughly 14Mil and we've filled the LT spot.

What do we do with the dough?

Probably spend a little more finding a good SS, or maybe pursue a cut DeMarcus Ware?

There's always a depth RB signing too.

We'll probably have more room than that too. I doubt the Cards structure Veldheer to have a 7 mill cap hit. He could, but most teams try and save cap space.

As for the question, I don't think it changes the Cards' plan much at all. They still likely have set values for each player. They may now look to a depth ILB signing though.

Jarius Byrd is a name I like, but I am not sold on paying a S the money he says he wants.

Other than that...TJ Ward...maybe, but he is a bit limited as a S.

Chris Clemons, not worth 5 mil but maybe for 3?

I would love to address S in FA because the draft class is a bit lacking.

Other than that, DeMarcus Ware could be interesting but he is not young. Daryl Smith would fill the leadership role left by Dansby but he isn't a young guy either.

Not a ton of 5 or 6 mil guys out there that I would be excited to add.

OK...here are 5 names that are under 6 mil (leaving out Bryd) that could be worth adding
1-Aqib Talib - CB (maybe a stretch, but would be a great system fit)
2-TJ Ward - S (fills a need and is younger)
3-Daryl Smith - ILB
4-Matt Shaughnessy - OLB
5-Demarcus Ware - OLB

S, OLB, & OT is where I think we are severely lacking and I am not sure how much you want to spend on these spots in FA.

If his knees check out, Pat Angerer would be a good ILB depth guy to push Minter. I'm sure Arians knows him from Indy.

And the 2-3 million not spent on Branden Albert.

1. Re-sign [extend] Patrick Peterson!
2. Upgrade defensive backfield.

Byrd at safety would be sweet too lol
I heard Gil Brandt talking about Byrd and said his numbers contradict his actual on-field play. He called him a garbage man in that he was the beneficiary of overthrows and balls inexplicably thrown right at him and that he wasn't worth the 9mill/year he is seeking.

Good for Dansby, played the game and got paid. Browns add leadership though they paid a hefty price for it. I can't fault Keim for not topping this deal.

I really wonder what Dansby is thinking when he makes these decisions. If it is only abount money.... Then god bless.

But man. He was great here and mediocre everywhere else.
