You cannot have your primary ball handler be someone you have to take off the court late because they'll get "hack a Shaq'd".

It wouldn't be ideal but he does a lot of things that would help us. And while it was on fewer than 3 attempts per game, he did shoot 67% from the line in college so there's reason to hope for improvement. I wasn't at all in love with the idea but when thinking of all the other possibilities mentioned here ( such as Rubio, Wall, Rozier, Conley etc.), I find myself becoming more and more of a Ball fan.

Lonzo Ball is not worth a lottery pick.

He is ALWAYS injured and shoots 40% from the freethrow line

People really don't understand this. It's the LA hype Lonzo is actually pretty bad. His shot is horrible it can't be stressed enough he's a point guard who shoots 42% from the line it's historically bad. So your telling me my PG my primary ball handler can't be on the court late in close games? Yeah no thanks.

I'd hesitate to go that high right now but maybe come draft time. As mentioned before, I worry about his injuries and his horrible free throw shooting. Well, actually, the free throw thing won't be much of a problem. Once he dons a Suns uniform he won't be shooting many free throws.

When I originally said 5-14 I just meant that’s probably Ja’s floor come draft time. If Orlando gets the #2 pick he’s guaranteed to go 2. If Atlanta gets the #2 pick they could probably trade out unless they love one of the wings. Chicago and NY could use him too though.

A lack of and poor FT shooting is already a big problem...

Especially with the Suns' current dysfunctional environment (and even likely without it), if they were to trade for Ball, he would be back with the Lakers or Clippers the minute his rookie contract is up. No thanks.

Maybe I’m just impatient, or have no favourites after Zion and Morant. I’d also be hoping that Ball’s shooting is mitigated by a shooting guard who needs a lot of touches and a center who can shoot, and that he’s be a pass-first facilitator.

Right now, me too.

And I think far too much is being made of Ball's free throw shooting. He gets 5 free throws a game, let's say he gets 7 with us. That means he'll probably miss 3 or 4 of them. Is that really a deal breaker when you consider everything else he does? People also need to remember that he's just barely 21. All that said, I don't know how we get him anyway.

He's been in the league for a little bit now, the data trend already shows that he's a poor free throw shooter. Usually if you're a bad free throw shooter you're already a bad outside shooter.

And overall as a team we aren't so hot at the gimme points as well, there were a few games where we didn't sink timely free throws. I'd still do a top-3 protected for him though. God we sound desperate.

Yeah, a little bit. I think it's just a function of what kinds of PGs might actually be available.

1) 2019-2020 rookie: likely the right move assuming the right pick, but requires patience
2) PG on rookie contract: "available" ones have concerns: Ball, Dennis Smith, etc.
3) Veteran PG with upside: lots of competition/no real sleepers; harder to get than hoped
4) Premier veteran PG: mostly unavailable or require massive outlay
5) Veteran PG on or near downside of career: risky with financial burden

Best-case-scenarios IMO are a #1 that makes an immediate adjustment to the NBA, or a #2 that's really a #3. But that's a lot of hoping!

I want a combo of 1 and 3.

I'll have the combo too but I want double beans, no rice. And I think 1 or 5 is probably the combo we'll be left with. Develop or overpay for a broken down veteran in search of a retirement paycheck.

A #1 that makes an immediate adjustment to the NBA doesn't exist. There is not a single point guard available in this draft that has the talent to be a potential NBA starter that is not a long term project. About the closest that comes to mind is Tre Jones, and his injury makes it likely that he slips enough in draft projections to return to Duke for his sophomore season.

In my opinion, it's a #3 or #4 or bust, and we need to trade for a low-cost stop gap ASAP in the meantime, so we are no longer forced to give all of the point guard minutes to the clearly not ready Okobo or Melton (which illustrates why #1 really can't be the solution), the over the hill Crawford and the ill-equipped Booker.

Offer the pick for D’Angelo Russell. If you can’t get Morant he’s probably the best alternative. No to guys like Conley.

And if you CAN get Morant? Do you really want another 3-4 years like this one just for the crap-shoot chance that Morant eventually becomes a viable NBA point guard?

What are you talking about 3-4 years ? He'd be an immediate upgrade over what we have , probably have a similar rookie year to trae young except probably better shooting efficiency

I slide the chips into the beans to soften up while I eat my burro and take the rice home to the chickens.

Except that Young led his Oklahoma team to several victories over Top 10 teams, while Morant has a grand total of zero wins against any high major team or even Top 50 competition. If Morant ever adjusts at all to NBA level competition, it will take at LEAST 3-4 years.

Lonzo's never gonna happen in phx for reasons abundantly discussed for over a year so i don't know why his name keeps being injecting into these conversations

i'm not thrilled about the pg trade prospects
so i'm in for another draft prospect
we're still years from being competitive in the playoffs anyway
iow, we're exactly where we were last year in the rebuild
rock bottom, in need of a coach and time

at best we'll have a 14% shot at Zion
if we don't pick at #1 i'd trade Booker for him
he's not worth the max if he's a defensive liability
and i'm finding his leadership potential questionable this year

in retrospect, trading Booker for the Doncic pick would have been sweet
but Zion would work nicely on the court with Ayton too

as is, Booker & Ayton have negative chemistry together given their defensive weaknesses
yes, a defensive passing specialist could be the glue, but again -- no viable prospects

Lonzo Ball is junk see Kendall Marshall with a bigger ego. Ball will be a journey man player after his rookie deal. Once LeBron came to town Ball has become an after thought and lucky Rondo got hurt.

Lonzo is passionless on the court, probably as a consequence of, and in contrast to, his big-mouthed father.
my guess is Lebron can't wait to trade in that diminishing asset for someone with the hunger to compete for another championship

Hype can do wonders. Ball just isn’t that good. He’d be even worse playing for the Phoenix Sarvers

I don't think he's great or anything, just better than what we have. And he's only 21 so he's likely nowhere near his potential.

If we traded the 3rd or 4th pick for Lonzo Ball... I would hang myself with my own entrails. That would be it... I'd be done.
