If the Suns trade for a big, Marion is most likely to go.

Why would Phili trade for a 30 year old swing man who relies on his hops.... maybe because they don't have enough swing men..

And there is no way in HELL they would trade AI for Marion straight up, let alone throw in Dalembert and Young....

but for ANYONE who thinks Marion isn't simply going to Walk, either this year or next, they are seriously delerious....

Here are Marion's three choices that I can see happening this summer (in order of possibility):

1) Asks for a sign and trade, allows team that is receiving marion to move salary needed in order to extend him

2) Stays put - makes 17 million dollars on the team that hides his shortcomings and pays him well.

3) Opts out - goes to compete in the free market, only teams like Philly, Charlotte, Minnesota will have the cash to start his new salary high enough to appease him.

finally someone besides me with some sense in all this. Marion is most useful to a couple teams because there are only a few running teams in the nba, and phili isn't one of them.

I agree with you 100%... either way, he is here for a MAX of 1 more year.. I just hope we can get SOMETHING for him.. even if its for expiring deals (assuming we can throw in Diaw, I'd be ALL OVER that :D)

The Suns add rebounding and depth to the team, while saving about 18 Million off the Cap next year... Their new rotation would be

PG: Nash/Williams
SG: Bell/Barbosa
SF: Hill/Davis
PF: Haslem/Skinner
C: Amare/Skinner

While the Heat get a proven All-Star to help them this year and next, (their window is obviously shut this year, but with Marion/Diaw, and Wade, they have a SOLID nucleaus for the future, plus Banks is a young PG that needs a new home and could be a solid addition to the heat system, plus they will in all reality have two lottery picks in the upcoming draft.. Their new rotation could be

PG: Quinn/Banks
SG: Wade/Cook
SF: Marion/Wright
PF: Blount/Diaw
C: Shaq/Mourning

The team is deeper, and more talented than before, and could be back to competing for the east next year....

Thoughts? Anyone think we could do this deal without having to give up the ATL pick?

i think i'd have to pass on that one. Davis is a bit of a loose cannon out there, and smush=banks essentially (with worse defense even). I like williams for his shooting ability and haslem for his defense, rebounding, and energy however he still isn't a center like what we need. i'd keep marion and diaw. On top of that, miami hasn't given up on their chances yet so i doubt they're ready to deal haslem.

Arwillan, don't you think the SUNS could use a loose-cannon? Enforcer
Their choir boy/soft image is one reason the SUNS find themselves hip-checked,kneed in the groin, hacked up, and roughed up every year in April/May.

I actually just changed it a bit to make it more appealing to the Heat...

I think I'm looking at this trade in the same sense of the marbury trade, (except we get a legit player in return).. A saving of over 20 million off the cap would bring the suns Cap number by my calculations to about 47 million...

And we still keep a VERY competitve team....

Do I think with Marion and Diaw we are a better team... yeah probably, do I think we will win a championnship this year with them... I'm not as confident as I have been the past 3 years...

I think we are a better team with Marion, but I think we have a better shot of winning a Championship this year and have A LOT brighter future if we make a trade like this... IMO.... If that makes sense....

well we could use toughness, but not like davis gives. davis jacks up bad shots consistently and is as much of a black holeas barbosa to be honest.

Barbosa is a loose cannon, add Davis and amare would get 6 shots a game. I can see amare now, wringing his hands and complaining about touches as his man dunks on the other end.

I see a problem with this trade. Shaq is old and will be retiring after this year or the next and we don't even know if Zo is coming back. This means that Miami will be without a quality center. I think they will ask for skinner or amare instead of Marion.

Barbs is a ball hog tweener with good speed. He's hardly a loose cannon.
My point wasn't that we necessarily need R.Davis but an enforcer of some sort.

LB is not the problem. DA is the problem. When LB is to play the SG fully, he'd be a perfect 6th man for any team. LB becomes a loose cannon of sort, because DA doesn't want to develop Amare and let him touch the ball without Nash on the court.

Pacers get marion 1 year rental and then most likely cap relief after he opts.

Suns get rebounding beast foster, but have to take on dunleavy's somewhat big contract although he is putting up great numbers.

Remember, if marion bolts next year we have jack for cap anyway, so if you ask me I would easily do this trade.

Would the pacers do it? Do we have to include the ATL pick?

The other choice is murphy instead

I think the pacers would do that one.

Those Pacer trades are horrid. The Suns are better off losing Marion "for nothing" than taking on more bad contracts.

I'd have to agree..

I would rather pay Shaq 23 Million the next two years, then pay Dunleavy 10 Million the next 4..

And I would cry if we had to pay Shaq.... If we got Dunleavy.. you'd have to put most Suns Fans on Suicide Watch....

I sense much hatred for dunleavy hmmm. I was actually aiming more for the rebounding from foster we needed and dunleavy as a stopgap measure to match salaries in the trade and try to makeup for marion the least we could.

Ok then, maybe there is a serious rebounder we can get from some other place in a marion trade.
