If a guy is stupid enough to let his hair hang long and take a chance at having someone grab it and break his freaking neck, so be it.

are you in my thoughts? :)

You're always in my thoughts, DC. ;)

Seriously though. Long hair? This is the new problem-du-jour in the NFL? Not horse collar tackles. Not late hits on the QB. Long hair. I for one have never watched a football game and thought "Man, I wish that guy's hair wasn't so long."

Next thing you know, they'll be making players cover up their tattoos if the league feels they're inappropriate. Matter of fact, I'd actually understand that more than telling people their hair is too long.

let em have hair, who the eff cares?

Shane, why do you care how they look? They are Men. They are football players. I dont watch football and say "now why cant larry fitz cut his hair and go clean cut like tom brady?" theyr job is to play football, not look cute.

Sign me up on the "It's ok to have hair out the helmet" group.

It's football, a game you start playing at 12. These guys are paid to play, it's awesome and there's no mistaking it for any other profession.

If anything I'm able to more quickly identify those hair magnificent players as easily by their choice of 'locks as the numbers on their jersey.

The main reason for this rule has nothing to do with safety issues. There are some players around the league that have had their hair grow so long that it is covering their names and numbers on the back of their jersey.

Its more of an image thing for the league and while I don't mind the long hair, I can understand the NFL wanting to control it a little bit.

NO WAY!!

Remember Tillman's long locks during that Rose Bowl season at ASU? It seems like the owners feel they need to mettle just for the sake of mettling.

I am not in favor of the long hair that the players have. But if they are allowed to keep it long it should be fair game to use to tackle the player.

It is. Loose hair is considered part of the uniform and therefore fair game.

Like I said it has more to do with the players that have their hair grow so long that it covers up their name that the league has a problem with

What?
As an 80's rocker I say let them do whatever they want with their hair.

I say when your professional look professional.

So I guess those $5000 suites they are forced to where after games are not professional because they have long hair?

Let me ask you then, would you not call this guy a professional since it looks like his hair would come out of a helmet?

I think the real issue is that it's a uniform thing. Just like you can't wear pink shoes or a headband with an unofficial sponsor on it (see Jim McMahon) you can't have a cape of hair covering up your name, numer, or team logos. Ill take no sides on this, but it seems like a lot of folks missed the issue.
