who goes from the current roster. Also my choice at the moment is Stewart. I think I would leet go of JJ. He has shown little in the time he has been here.

I am with you on letting JJ go. I am on the Johnson and Rice bandwagon. Answering the question the thread asked, I would have to say draft a running back in the second and draft a DE in the first. Unless the DE position is answered in FA. Then I say go after a RB in the first with. Position needed to be address is the most is the DL,OL, RB, LB, and CB.

I think that JJ has steadily improved and was pretty solid as a 3rd down RB this year...it's way too early to give up on him. Look at what happened with Garrison Hearst and Thomas Jones...it took them 4-5 years to develop as bona fide NFL backs. While JJ may never be a feature RB, he's definitely has the potential to be a good change of pace back, which, these days, is what most teams want, a.k.a. the "thunder and lightning" combo.

Pick up Stewart, cut JJ.

Shipp has some skill as a 3rd down back, but I really can't figure out why we keep JJ at all. They guy is still clearly afraid of contact, and really has no use in our system. Honestly, I wouldn't mind cutting JJ and Ship, bringing in Stewart to split carries with Edge and then just pick up a low price free agent or UDA for our 3rd back.

Shipp. No question.

Without a doubt. He's supposed to be a goal-line and short-yardage back, but he's not that good at it. Some say he's supposedly a good 3rd down back, but he doesn't have the speed for it. He is what he is--a borderline NFL backup that can hold down a #3 spot, but should be the first to go if we get another RB.

Shipp would help us more cap wise so he would go. If we had to take a RB Round 1 I go with Stewart, the guy ran all through USF's defense and other PAC 10 defenses as well.

I think we need to draft a RB in one of the first three rounds this year. An improved running game will make our Defense better. It will keep them off of the field more as it will hopefully allow us to sustain more ball controlling drives while our D is resting on the sidelines. Time for Shipp to go.

I guess ther question is would you take Stewart with the 16th pick?

Hmm, I would.

Since he is kinda like a Maurice Jones-Drew type RB and I think MJD would be the perfect fit for our offensive scheme.

Then again I have to admit I wouldn't know who would be considered the BPA at that time. Cause if there is a OLB/DE guy out there that is better I think the Cardinals would go in that direction. I wouldn't say it is an apparent "need" but we are skinny at the OLB position.

Defintally Arrington while I like his speed JJ just can't take a hit and always goes down on the 1st hit which is always annoying. Man I was just expecting so much more from Arrington really disapointed :(. But I would defintally take a chance on Stewart sounds like he could probally payoff as a decent back

Vinnny,

Are you saying CB is the fourth biggest need on the team? Are you happy with Green and Hood as our starters? And where is the depth? If Pace is signed we are good at OLB\DE but still could use some depth. Wells needs to replace as starting LG and Gandy is not the long term answer at LT. Assuming Pace is signed I would list CB as the biggest need followed by OL and OLB\DE. If we can improve the OL the running game will follow.

Without a doubt it would be Shipp. Considering the Coaches used JJ way more often this season and played in more snaps as a runner, catcher, and blocker I think the coaches would to.

Shipp makes over 2 Mill to be just average at best on special teams(I would have said just above average if he wasn't so bad at blocking for our punter, and return men), the 3rd best blocking RB, 3rd best receiving RB, and a below average runner. He brought absolutely nothing to the table as a RB this season. We can get a UDFA or late draft pick that cost about 25% the cost that Shipp costs to take over for his special teams duties and not miss a beat.

Even if they don't draft a Rb, Shipp could be gone and it would be no big loss at all. The guy did nothing and really hasn't done a whole lot his entire career.

Agree with everything but the end assumption.

What people forget is that whoever wins the line of scrimage wins the ball game. I am a firm believer that it all starts up front. If the cardinals can get a front four that can get pressure on the qb and stop the run, then the defense will be better as a whole. You give any Qb 5-7 seconds to throw the ball they will find an open reciever. the secondary can only cover for so long.

The more I think about it the more I am positive we will not take a running back. Whiz has a lot of the Pittsburgh system blood in him. Look for him to do it the way he has seen it done before.
Willie Parker was an undrafted free agent. I think we will see us take a back in the middle rounds somewhere. Edge will be our Jerome Bettis/Davenport rb. We need someone to take the Willie Parker role. Arrington can and should be utililized more in certain situations and against certain teams. Thats what the Patriots do. You don't hear Kevin Faulks named mentioned for weeks at a time but somewhere along the way he plays a major role or makes a key first down to help win the game.
I can see Whiz craving for Faneca along with our own free agents. The running back situation will be handled in a very unheralded way.

The difference between Arrington & Faulk is that Faulk makes plays. In other words Faulk gets the first down when the patriots call his number. Arrington doesn't.

It's not only his call. Last year it was Grimm who insisted on them drafting Levi Brown along with some head brass.

Wild, I don't know this. How do you know it? Will you cite your source, please?

He help win a game in St.Louis on a simple swing pass which allowed us to score a td at the end of the first half. J.J. has done that a couple of times this year and I think he is capable of more if given the opportunity.
However, there is no way in the world he will EVER be an everydown back.
