Im not a fan of college football. If we drafted in the 20's what is a good pass rushing OLB or DE we can get there?

OLB, ILB, DE, TE, OT take your pick of the best available when we draft.

BUT we need LBs so bad it isn't funny...we could live with our current group of DEs but with Dansby gone, Okeafor, Berry & Haggans old, Davis & Brown coming off of injuries our LBs could be an even bigger problem next season.

Anyone know if this is supposed to be a strong draft class for LBs?

There are usually some really good LBs available in the late 20's...especially MLBs.

I think we made our mistake by not making it happen last season. Last season look like it may have been one of the best LB classes I have ever seen. We should have pulled a Boldin trade sometime before the draft.

Look at this draft class:

Paul Krueger
Jason Phillips
Rey Rey
Gerald McRath
Brian Cushing
Conner Barwin
Larry English
Robert Ayers
Clint Sintim
Jason williams
Victor Butler
Jasper Brinkley
Clay Matthews
Zack Follett
Aaron Curry
Scott McKilop
Laurenitis

Don't forget Everette Brown ;)

From what I've seen in mocks the 1st round rush LB prospects are:

Jerry Hughes - TCU
Von Miller - Texas A&M
Sergio Kindle - Texas

Apparently Von Miller has beat Russell Okung a few times and he is projected to be the first offensive tackle taken. A lot of talent in Texas this year. I wouldn't mind spending a 4th-5th round pick on ASU's Dexter Davis.

Hughes is a monster!!! It will take many players or picks to get him

Living here in Dallas I've seen him every week

Well anything is possible in the NFL draft, we'll just pray all the 3-4 teams ahead of us are under the impression he was drafted top 5 and is no longer on the board. There aren't a whole lot of 3-4 teams drafting and nearly all of them have much bigger needs than OLB, so we might get lucky here. It'd be nice if Hughes or Miller fell to us, but if we're drafting at #32 that might not be so likely ;)

If we are drafting #32 I will not care who we draft because I will have died & gone to heaven

here's some rating for rush olb's :

  1. You must be registered for see images
    Jerry Hughes, TCU
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 258.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.64.
    Projected Round (2010): 1-2.

11/14/09: Jerry Hughes is once again having a huge year (10.5 TFL, 9 sacks). He has a great shot of being the first rush linebacker taken in the 2010 NFL Draft.

5/18/09: Jerry Hughes had a monstrous 2008 campaign for TCU, notching 19.5 TFL and 15 sacks.
  2. You must be registered for see images
    Von Miller*, Texas A&M
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 240.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
    Projected Round (2010): 1-2.

11/20/09: Compares to Elvis Dumervil; undersized but makes up for it with relentless pass rushing. Von Miller has 18.5 TFL and 15 sacks as a junior, beating Russell Okung on a few occasions. Any 3-4 team would love to have him.
  3. You must be registered for see images
    Sergio Kindle, Texas
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 254.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
    Projected Round (2010): 2.

11/14/09: Sergio Kindle is physically gifted and some team may fall in love with him at the Combine. However, he has only 3.5 sacks as a senior.

2/16/09: Though he was just a first-year starter in 2008, the hard-working Sergio Kindle made a name for himself, notching 46 tackles, 12.5 TFL and 10 sacks. He also blocked a kick. With another stellar season, he'll be the top rush linebacker in the 2010 NFL Draft.

8/2/08: </I>Sergio Kindle has yet to start a game at the college level, but he registered 32 tackles in reserve last season. He also owns a spectacular 40 at his size.

  4. You must be registered for see images
    Eric Norwood, South Carolina
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 255.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.71.
    Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

11/14/09: Eric Norwood has 10.5 TFL and seven sacks in 2009. He also has two blocked kicks and 62 total tackles.

9/12/09: There is no clear-cut favorite as the top rush linebacker in the 2010 NFL Draft, but that could quickly change if Eric Norwood continues to dominate his opponents like he did against N.C. State last week. Norwood finished with eight tackles, two TFL and two sacks. The Wolfpack didn't have much of an answer for him.

2/12/09: A monstrous pass-rusher, Eric Norwood collected 14.5 TFL and nine sacks as a junior.

1/6/09: Eric Norwood has announced that he'll be returning to school once he learned that he would be a late-round pick from the NFL Draft Advisory Committee. Norwood cited that he plans to improve his draft stock as a senior just like Aaron Curry.

7/30/08: Eric Norwood made the most out of his first year as a full-time starter. Norwood recorded 69 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and six sacks.
  5. You must be registered for see images
    Ricky Sapp, Clemson
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 246.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.62.
    Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

11/20/09: Did a good job rebounding off his torn ACL with 8.5 TFL and four sacks in 10 games this year. Plays standing up at Clemson, so he'll be targeted by 3-4 teams.

2/12/09: Collected 9.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks in 2008, but tore his ACL in November.

7/30/08: Ricky Sapp's 40 will intrigue some GMs and coaches. Sapp was a nightmare for opposing signal callers, as he racked up 22 quarterback pressures and six sacks in 2007.
  6. You must be registered for see images
    O'Brien Schofield, Wisconsin
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 248.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
    Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

11/20/09: A man with two last names, O'Brien Schofield has terrorized Big Ten quarterbacks with 51 tackles, 19.5 TFL and eight sacks in 10 games.
  7. You must be registered for see images attach
    George Selvie, South Florida
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 247.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.68.
    Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

11/14/09: George Selvie continues to struggle, registering just three sacks in eight games in his senior year.

5/18/09: A 3-4 rush linebacker, George Selvie has slipped into the second round of my 2010 NFL Mock Draft because he had just 5.5 sacks in 2008.

1/8/09: George Selvie announced that he'll be returning for his senior season.

11/16/08: Facing countless double teams this year, it's amazing George Selvie has been able to put up 11 TFL and five sacks through eight contests.

  8. You must be registered for see images attach
    Cameron Sheffield, Troy
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 247.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.63.
    Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

11/20/09: The "other" pass-rusher on Troy has 10 TFL and 6.5 sacks in 10 games as a senior.

2/16/09: Qualifying for the All-Sun Belt First Team, Cameron Sheffield had 58 tackles, 12.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks in 2008.
  9. You must be registered for see images
    Jason Worilds*, Virginia Tech
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 254.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
    Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

11/15/09: Disappointed in 2009; has just seven TFL and 3.5 sacks as a junior.

2/12/09: Despite playing with shoulder injuries, Jason Worilds garnered 18.5 TFL and eight sacks, earning himself a spot on the All-ACC Second Team.
  10. You must be registered for see images
    Jermaine Cunningham, Florida
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 250.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
    Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

11/14/09: Through eight games, Jermaine Cunningham has 8.5 TFL and four sacks. More importantly, Cunningham actually tries, unlike the guy on the other side.

2/12/09: Jermaine Cunningham did a great job putting on some bulk this season, moving up from 237 to 250 pounds. Cunningham had 10 TFL, six sacks and four passes broken up in 2008.
  11. You must be registered for see images
    Antonio Coleman, Auburn

here are some ILB rankings as well:

  1. You must be registered for see images
Brandon Spikes, Florida - Scouting Report
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 244.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
Projected Round (2009): Top 25 Pick.

1/10/09: In addition to a win over Oklahoma in college football's runner-up championship, Spikes tallied 87 tackles, eight TFL, two sacks, four picks (two for TDs) and two passes broken up as a junior.

12/7/08: Brandon Spikes has been a beast this year, and is almost a first-round lock. Going into the SEC Championship, Spikes recorded 80 tackles, eight TFL, two sacks and four picks (two returned for touchdowns.)

5/11/08: In addition to being a sound tackler (a whopping 131 stops in 2007), Brandon Spikes is also great in pass coverage.

2007: The centerpiece of Florida's defense despite being only a sophomore. Either leading the Gators in tackles or sacking opposing quarterbacks on multiple occasions every single week.
  2. You must be registered for see images
    Rolando McClain*, Alabama
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 248.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
    Projected Round (2010): 1-2.

2/19/09: An AP All-America third-teamer, Rolando McClain had 95 tackles, 12 TFL, three sacks and six passes broken up for one of the top defenses in the nation.

8/3/08: Despite being a mere true freshman, Rolando McClain started eight games, and recorded 75 tackles (five for loss), four pass break-ups and two interceptions. GMs will love the 4.6 at 255 pounds.

You must be registered for see images

  3. You must be registered for see images attach
    Sean Lee, Penn State
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 234.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.63.
    Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

2/19/09: Sean Lee needs to prove that he's not a risk, given that he's coming off a torn ACL. Lee was a former first-round prospect.
  4. You must be registered for see images attach
    Joe Pawelek, Baylor
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 238.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
    Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

2/19/09: Baylor was competitive in 2008 for a number of reasons, one of which was Joe Pawelek. The All-Big XII first-teamer totaled 128 tackles, six TFL, seven passes broken up and an amazing six interceptions.

5/11/08: Joe Pawelek managed 99 tackles, eight tackles for loss and two sacks. He needs to improve his 40 to sneak into the first few rounds.

2007: I guess when you're playing for Baylor, it's easy to get on the field. Or maybe Joe Pawelek is just that good; as a freshman, Pawelek recorded 86 tackles. As a sophomore, he was named a team captain.
  5. You must be registered for see images
    Josh Bynes*, Auburn
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 231.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.62.
    Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

2/19/09: Josh Bynes, a first-year starter at Auburn, collected 53 tackles, three TFL and three picks in 2008.
  6. You must be registered for see images
Micah Johnson, Kentucky - Scouting Report
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 254.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.71.
    Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

2/19/09: As one of the leaders of the Wildcats, Micah Johnson recorded 93 tackles, 13 TFL, 2.5 sacks and two passes broken up as a junior. He was on the All-SEC First Team.

8/3/08: Micah Johnson has just one career start under his belt, but he was productive last season in relief. Johnson had 58 tackles, five pass break-ups and two interceptions.
  7. You must be registered for see images
    Daryl Washington, TCU
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 228.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
    Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

5/21/09: Daryl Washington fits into a 4-3, so look for Josh McDaniels to draft him into his 3-4. Washington had 63 tackles, 5.5 TFL and three sacks in 2008.
  8. You must be registered for see images
    Darryl Sharpton, Miami
    Height: 5-11. Weight: 237.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
    Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

2/19/09: Unlike last year, Darryl Sharpton stayed healthy all year. He had 58 tackles, six TFL and 1.5 sacks.

5/11/08: Struggled with injuries in 2007 and looked out of place when he returned to the lineup.

2007: Darryl Sharpton, who was moved into the starting lineup as a freshman, maintains incredible speed at his size. If he can run in the 4.4s at the Combine, he'll skyrocket even further up this chart.
  9. You must be registered for see images
    Ryan D'Imperio, Rutgers
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 240.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.64.
    Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

2/19/09: Ryan D'Imperio, an All-Big East second-teamer, totaled 93 tackles, 13 TFL, 5.5 sacks and three passes broken up.

You must be registered for see images
  10. You must be registered for see images attach
    Boris Lee, Troy
    Height: 6-0. Weight: 232.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
    Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

2/19/09: Qualifying for the All-Sun Belt First Team, Boris Lee tallied a whopping 112 tackles, 9.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks and four passes broken up.
  11. You must be registered for see images
    Jamar Chaney, Mississippi State
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 244.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
    Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

2/19/09: Missed almost all of the 2008 season with a leg injury. Started 27 of the previous 29 games before he got hurt.

Rolondo McClain is the pick for us. He could easily be available as well. My second choice of guys who'd likley be there is Norwood from S.Carolina. Hufghes will be gone and ,i think, Kindle is overrated. Sapp from Clemson would be nice in round 3 but thta's probably a little late for him. Now, if the Cards deal Boldin and get a 2nd rounder that opens up a lot of guys to the Cards. OLB may not be as big of need as some think because Cody Brown and Davis both will be back next year. The perfect draft for me would be getting a 2nd for Boldin then taking McClain, Anthony Davis, OT Rutgers, Javier Arenas CB Bama who would also be our new punt returner, and Ricky Sapp in round 3.

What makes you think Brown would make a good guard? Strength isn't really the strength of his game.

For what it's worth this is what Kiper says about the upcoming draft:

"If you have a need for a good interior or edge lineman -- or even an outside guy in a 3-4 -- this is a draft in which you should be able to get a lot of value."

That is good news for Cards as these are big needs for us.

I would take a flyer on Sean Lee out of Penn State. Plays faster than his time and has a good head on his shoulders. Besides they con't call it linebacker U for nothing.
