I so want to believe that the Cards are the clear team to beat in the west. I do have several concerns. I think the division will be very tight this year. Every game will count this year.
My biggest concern is the Cards dismal road record over the last several years. 1 road win in the last 2 years and the win was at the last second against a terrible Miami team. This team will need to win atleast half of thier road games to have a chance. I really think the top 3 teams in the West are very close talentwise...and the Cards can't seem to beat the 49ers to save thier lives. I think the Cards are drastically improved in most areas but I think it's gonna be a fight week in and week out. 9-7 would be a good season for the Cards this year..10-6 would be incredible. Alot will depend on injuries.
Rams have O-Line and secondary issues, and Martz has made some questionable desicions but they still have a potent offense and a stud powerback in Jackson.
Seattle has had to fill some holes on Defense and at WR. Tons of pressure on Holmgren this year..if things start out shaky it could really collapse by midseason. They can run the ball well as long as the Alexander contract situation doesn't become a constant distraction. They solid at QB as well.
San Fran should improve but there was no place to go but up. From what I've read the 3-4 defensive scheme fits the 49er players much better. Peterson is a stud barring any injury setbacks. On Offense, Smith will struggle but is ahead of schedule and has a strong arm according to what I've read. I expected atleast 5 wins from the Niners this year..
The Cards are definately up and coming but have are inexperienced in the secondary and the TE position, an unproven O-Line, and an immobile quarterback with a history of holding the ball too long. I think the Cards are gonna be able to pressure opposing qb's much better this year which should help out the secondary. The Cards need to stop the run, an area of struggle last season. The Cardinals got faster and more experienced but not bigger up the middle so that will be a test. On Offense everything hinges on the O-line. If they can give Warner some time he will pick defenses apart and the sky is the limit. If they can give JJ and Shipp a seam ther Cards should have a 1000+ yard rusher this year. If they can't protect Warner it could get ugly and all bets are off.
I'm not trying to be negative because I'm really feeling great about the direction of this franchise and the teams chances this year. I just think that right now it's too close to call...that said I will go on record and say the Cards will be in the hunt and it will come down to the last week of the season..where hopefully the Cards can play a game which will mean nothing for the Eagles and Colts!
