Yeah, I lived through that era. I was always fond of Boone (Love Letters in the Sand, Moody River etc.), just not the racially motivated covers for which he was so famous. He truly seemed to be a very nice man. I actually got to (very briefly) meet him and his family in 1970 when they were in the valley for the premiere of The Cross and the Switchblade (co-starring a very young Officer Ponchello as Nicky Cruz). The church I grew up in frowned on movie going but they made an exception for this one because of the David Wilkerson/Teen Challenge connection with the Assembly of God churches so a large group of us teenagers went together to see the movie.
