This post is spot on. I attend or watch 9 ND games a year and Floyd is real deal. He's better suited for NFL then Blackmon IMO. He's by far best ND pro prospecting a decade coming out.

This is AS good a pick as PP last year. Love the talent we are assembling.

you had me till he looks better than fitz, fitz stats alone say 100% innacurate.

his stats alone say he cant hang w fitz and beyond that, fitz was 100% sure hire top of the draft kind of guy.

Stats don't lie, but they can be misleading. Pitt played in a pathetic conference & also played against some weak non-conference foes. Fitz was ALWAYS Pitt's 1st option where ND's offense was far more diversified & not geared entirely towards Floyd. Floyd had to play second fiddle to Golden Tate for half his time at ND. I'm a Syracuse guy that lives in PA. I watched Fitz feast on my Syracuse teams that were just plain awful. I watched Fitz every weekend. Whereas Fitz was always a physical freak, he wasn't a YAC guy coming out of college. He was a below average YAC guy until Haley got his hands on him. My point is that Floyd is a prototypical NFL star. He's as big as Fitz, attacks the ball like Fitz, better speed than Fitz, tremendous blocker, very good YAC guy. Fitz is GREAT because his work ethic has propelled him to continuously improve. If Floyd has that work ethic, he will be unstoppable also.

I don't think media attention matters but I will say that your teams' record influences where you get drafted. I've watched too many good players from teams that had a bad year get overlooked in the draft.

We know you are obsessed with Floyd's prior history with alcohol but that doesn't mean the guy can't be as good as PACardsfan says. Many people here didn't believe me when I said Acho was the real deal for instance.

I'll always put more emphasis on the opinion of a fan who actually watched the guy play.

very true, Sam Acho should have been rated a late first round pick but the Horns had a crappy year and that result was added to his value in the draft

He is only going to get better. Especially we all know Fitzgerald is going to take him under his wing. Both Minnesota boys, and we all know he is going to have him work with him during the offseason. Great pick up . As much as we needed Oline help we needed receiver help. If people are happy with Roberts, than I don't know what to tell you.

Good post.

But whatever success Floyd goes on to have will be directly attributed to the guidance of Fitz. That's what makes Fitzs value to team irreplaceable. He's invariably the most powerful WR in the league from an influence stand point.

That's why this is perfect. Larry is vested in Floyd becoming great. It's a great situation for the kid all around.

I don't really think media attention translates to being drafted high. I think NFL people find you if you can play.

That's true enough, but media attention and playing in a "big" program gets you drafted higher than your abilities and performance, as well.

Just ask JaMarcus Russell, Matt Leinart, and WR Mike Williams.

I also think that playing at a big program boosts your stock in the eyes of the media and demands a much longer look. I do think that teams are getting better at ignoring the media and following their boards.

Correct. and I'm not talking about his on field performance, I think he's a very good WR. I know for example Stanford raved about the kid when they played him.

My entire concern with the kid is off the field. And I wasn't even that concerned until googled him last night and saw .19 BAC for his DUI. When I found out a judge had required him to have the breathalyzer deal in his car that just renewed my concern.

My comment was that playing at ND is not going to keep NFL scouts from seeing you, they played Stanford, USC etc during his time there so scouts saw Michael Floyd play. he wasn't rated higher because of his off field problems.

This is standard procedure with all DUIs

no it's not, I actually looked it up for the State of Indiana. Prior to 2009 you had to have TWO DUI's before the judge would do that. AFter 2009 they gave the judge discretion he could order it after one DUI if he felt there was a reason to do so. Among reasons listed was other prior offenses that were related to alcohol so presumably his 2 prior citations for under age drinking were what the judge felt warranted it.

That's the whole reason I looked it up I was curious if Indiana was more strict since I knew in other states you usually had to have multiple offenses before it was required.

OT: Breathalyzer installations are being fueled and driven by lobbyists. I know a kid that received a DUI for marijuana - required to install a breathalyzer. There is no logic to that whatsoever.

Hopefully Floyd's over-indulgence days are, and will remain in his past.

medical cards are instant DUIs now also. Sheriff posse gets spiffs based on DUIS given. Reasons for DUIs were made vague 4 years ago.

Correct the story I found on Indiana said the law had been in place before but was overruled(after 1 DUI). They require a local distributor for the devices and the new proposal was apparently financed in part by that local distributor.

IIRC when Fitz joined the Cards he was touted as being an amazing talent but didn't necessarily run precise routes as he tended to round them off rather than making tight cuts. Haley challenged Fitz to work on that and to do whatever was necessary to become as great as his talent led people to believe he could be. We all know how that has turned out. He is now arguably the best and most feared receiver in the game.

I have read that route running is not something that Floyd does well but I have a feeling that will change quickly if he's willing to listen to what Fitz can teach him about being an NFL receiver. With all of his other attributes and assuming that he has learned his lesson and matured I think Floyd is going to end up being a very good to great and dangerous receivers. I also think that other teams DB's best be tightening up their chin straps cuz there is going to be some serious hitting going on between our #1 and #2 receivers and their challengers.

Listen, I love the pick. Was my #1 overall pick in every scenario.

Im thrilled.

but he isnt THAT good. Big body, good hands, very tough. But thats really all hes got. Sloppy route runner. Disappears if hes having trouble with his defender. He isnt THAT athletic. Hes not nearly as fast in game as his 40 time says (not a deep threat).

So, I love the pick, this is a game changer for us. But hes certainly no AJ Green or Julio Jones. Not even close.

Ill be real, I went to bed last night hoping I didnt wake up and see ESPN headlines "Cards Floyd arrested for DUI in Scottsdale in post draft celebration."

lol, lets hope.

Chris Carter said that Fitz has already contacted him to set up training sessions with Floyd and the two of them.

Fitz is going to invest in Floyd 100% so I love this pick more and more.

You obviously haven't watched this kid play for 4 years & I have! Floyd has GREAT hands, with the ability to effortlessly snatch the ball out of the air at a moments notice. His peripheral vision is simply a gift he was born with. I have seen NOTHING to indicate that his game speed is a concern. For a big man, he has different gears that he can get to quickly. Sloppy route running?? I'll say that route running is the one area that almost all WR's coming out of college can improve upon. That's the area that Fitz had to improve the most in. Way too early to make projections about where he stands relative to Green & Jones. They both have durability issues & Floyd goes after the ball better than they do. Personally, I much prefer Floyd to Jones. If Green has to play in Cincy his whole career, their system alone will slow down his progress. I'll say it again, Floyd will make the quickest transition to the NFL of all the WR's in this draft. He will be an impact player THIS year! If our QB play is above average, our offense will be scary!!
