Category #1 of the Internet Movie Questionnaire is the first in a series of 42 questions about People in Film.

This is your favorite director, not necessarily who you think is the best director ever. Feel free to post reasons and runners-up if you'd like, but please narrow down a final answer to a single person.

As the inaugural poster, my #1 favorite director is:
Akira Kurosawa

By a long mile. The guy knew how to do spectacle and is the hands-down best director of actors I've ever seen.

My runners-up:
Steven Spielberg
Martin Scorsese
Alfred Hitchcock
Kenneth Branagh
Howard Hawks
John Ford

Man... this is FREAKING TOUGH!

Favorite Director: Scorcese

Second Favorite: Mel Brooks

Runners Up (close in order):

Coen Brothers
Christopher Nolan
Spielberg
Kubrick
John Landis
John Hughes
Tarantino

P.T. Anderson was in my top 5 for a long time, but he fell by the wayside after The Master (which should have been his masterpiece but instead was just REALLY good performances in search of a story) and that really atrocious Coen Brothers-y one that came out a couple years ago who's title escapes memory.

Spielberg for me, no doubt, but I've always had a soft spot for John Sturges.

Also the Scottsdale connection?

John Sturges has a Scottsdale connection? j/k

I went to Coronado High School so I like Spielberg DESPITE his Scottsdale connection.:) Also, he was a big Wallace and Ladmo fan so that's a huge plus.

I have to go with David Fincher. Fight Club was just too good to choose anyone else.

Scorsese

This question should be "Who is the 2nd favorite director." It's Hitchcock and then everyone else.
