A guy either gets injured or not. It's not about paying a high contract. Now sure maybe a guy sluffs off his conditioning, and maybe that contributes to getting injured. But I also know Warner is probably in his best 'playing shape' EVER. I think that probably had a bigger reason in him staying injury free than luck.
But luck was definitely a factor. (it always is injury wise in the nfl)
I have to go with who I think gives us the best chance to win. I'm not handing anything to Leinart. He wants to start? Beat out Warner.
But from what I hear, Leinart is about as into this team as Haley is right now. Leinart is taking a check, and hoping for the best. But the mindset is punching a clock, and trying to prove his hollywood critics wrong, not on the field, but how he; appears, talks, prepares.
I'm not so sure he WANTS to play here. In fact I'd give it 70-30 he doesn't. But he's here and will show up, and see if a break will come his way, if not for here, then for somewhere else.
My main concerns with Leinart was lack of arm and injury proneness. These really aren't problems that are solved, you either have them or don't. He doesn't have one, and has the other, instead of vice versa.
If he comes in ripped, I'll soften my stance a bit, but not by much. I was thoroughly unimpressed with him adding 15 lbs or thereabouts, and he still looked like a freshman in high school.
I'll give him a chance, and root if he's in, but I'm not expecting much.
Plus with Warner you know he's going to ride and die with the team. He'll pick the Cards in any game they play, even if he doesn't play.
