draft Steve Novak from Marquette in the second round. I watched this guy compete and win the 3-point skills competition. He has a 'picture perfect' shooting form and his mechanics are near perfect. This year he worked on creating shooting space off his dribble to get ready for the next level.

His free throw shooting is outstanding although in the NBA he won't go to the free throw line on a regular basis. He isn't going to woo anybody with his athletic ability but his work ethic and his shooting are outstanding. Hey as a mid to late 2nd round pick, why not?

Steve Novak is my fathers name so I support the Suns drafting this kid based on that irrational reasoning alone.

saw a mock that had us taking al horford and pittsnogle with the lakers pick (at 20) and our pick. i'd take that draft. i love horford and though i'm not a big proponent of outside shooting bigmen, with the addition of horford i'd love to add pittsnogle.

DraftExpress always seems to have a more accurate scoop than NBAdraft.net... I also heard Horford wasn't going to declare. Can't remember if it was hoopshype or DraftExpress.

Florida is in the Final 4. I wouldn't trust anything Horford says right now until the tournament is over.

His name contains the word Darko, I'd watch out for this one:)

Does Novak have the speed to defend NBA small forwards? Horford sounds like a solid phsical player, but would he get minutes on the Suns when Amare comes back next year? I think we should try Armstrong (although comments that he's below average on court awareness are alarming) as a lanky center. If we could trade up I'd be all for getting Shelden Williams as a physical center. I'd still hope that Mardy Collins could fall into our range or that we could get Farmar next year.

As of right now the suns have the 19th-20th pick from the Lakers.
The suns play them two times and need to beat them both times to help them get a better pick. Hopefully someone else can beat them also.
Here is the Lakers remaining schedule.

Houston
Denver

L.A. Clippers
Golden State
Portland
Sun 16Phoenix

I just do not think the suns will draft a P.G. with the Lakers pick. It takes a while for point guards to be able to produce, and if the suns want a backup point they can sign a veteran this off season. With them going to resign Barbosa, and maybe House? they will be looking for some size and the BPA in their pick. D'Antoni wants his P. G. to be able to score, so there is a chance that House will be back. I also think they will trade the last pick they have unless they take a foriegn player and leave him stay overseas for a couple years.
I also like Hilton Armstrong if they keep the last pick, but not sure about drafting him with the 20th pick.

We have two first round picks and no, 2nd round picks this year.

If Daniel Gibson, Marcus Williams, or Hilton Armstrong are there, I would very disappointed with Horford.

It's likely Armstrong will be gone before the 20th pick.

I don't know how you could pass on Daniel Gibson or Marcus Williams there. Both are perfect for the Suns system. Both are likely to produce immediatley. Williams would be the ideal young backup PG, I think. He led the nation in assists and is also an outstanding rebounding guard.

Personally, I like Ryan Hollins. He's a more athletic, better rebounding Steven Hunter. Teams knock him because he's not strong enough in the post on either end, but the Suns don't ask their centers to play the low-post -- they'd just get in the way of Amare and Nash. The problem is Hollins is neither a passer nor a shooter, but he would be unstoppable on the break. The guy can jump out of the building for a 7-footer ... like Larry Nance vertical. He just so happens to be a kick-ass weak-side defender.

I feel like a player like Hollins can come in and make an immediate impact. Which means the Suns will pick some 6-9 Brazillian jump shooter.

I want Joakim Noah as our center, badly. He seems perfect for our system - motor that never stops, long and lean, excellent passing and ball handling big man. I think we'd have to move up in the draft quite a bit though :(

Williams won't, Armstrong is possible, I don't like Gibson at all and I do think that he would make a terrible mistake with declaring this year.

I watched a little of the George Mason/ Florida game. It seemed liked that little PG (Skinn) of George Mason was a dynamo in the first half but I walked in late to the second half.

He didn't appear to get much playing time in the second half and played like he was in foul trouble, hurt or had been chewed out by the coach. Anyway he was a different ballplayer in the second half.

IMO, he was one of the primary reasons George Mason was in the game in the first half. Also that Williams kid is a load. I won't even get into the talent Florida has on their team.

I know that Skinn had been suspended for a game (I believe the first game in the NCAA Tournament game) for throwing a punch??? and also had a technical foul in the second half as well in this game. Anyway, he appears small like Earl Boykins, can shoot, looks to pass like a PG, can penetrate and can be a pest on defense.

I'll admit I only seen him for a few minutes in this game, but aside from perhaps an attitude??? issue, he impressed me as a second round or FA prospect if enters the NBA draft.

I was wondering if anyone had seen him play for more than just a few minutes in one game and had any thoughts/ knowledge about this young man. I'm always looking for a backup PG for Steve Nash on the cheap. :)

I didn't see his name on draftnet. com.

Nevermind, I don't think Phoenix has a second round draft pick. Maybe he can be a prospect as a FA if available and not drafted.

The write-up on Dee Brown as a PG prospect on draftnet seems solid, however, I really wanted Phoenix to go big with their two first round picks if they keep them.

Can the Suns be all that serious about drafting a PG after letting Andre Barrett go so offhandedly? It's nice of them to let him go to Toronto for more PT but they must have decided they didn't need to carry another point.

I don't the college players but hopefully the Suns are going after guys that can rebound in a crowd - someone with some muscle. Drafting two of them and hoping one pans out sounds like a good idea to me. Even with KT our guys got crowded out in most scrums around the hoop and without him we are getting killed routinely - Toronto is one the weakest rebounding teams in the league and even without Bosh they outrebounded us by 14.

Whats amazing to me is how the Suns cannot recognize strength - we've managed to find a long string of players who look like they have the body for it but prove to be relative wimps on the boards - Luc Longley, Rodney Rogers, Cliff Robinson, Big Jake T, Voskuhl, Pat Burke, Tim Thomas in recent years. That's in addition to the ones that look frail and were/are. (Shawn looks rather frail though he's proved not to be, in general, but even he can't rebound in a crowd.)

Unfortunately, their gauge of strength since Mark West consists of Big Jake, and that didn't work out too well. Hopefully they'll address that with the draft.

It's kind of sad but due to the team's injuries I've been anticipating the draft much more than the playoffs. Now if KT comes back in the 2nd round that may change but as it is we're just too soft without him.

I'd like us to trade our two picks to Houston for the 11th and 31st. That would only make sense to Houston if they felt the first round was especially deep though. I'd just like to see us get one of these guys with a first round pick:
Collins
Williams (Uconn)
Williams (Duke)
Armstrong

with our second first rounder or perhaps an early second rounder I'd like to see us take Adams or take a risk with someone like Novak, Glen Davis, Hollins, Haryasz, etc. Lordy lordy how I wish the Lakers would lose all the rest of their games...

Just thought it was interesting that nbadraft.net has Seattle drafting a shooting guard in the second round. . . by the name of

Allan Ray.

Yeah, that one has to happen. Its destiny.

So, if you are the Suns, do you dare draft a guy named. . .

Rick Roby (nbadraft.net has him going at #21).

I would rather have Joahkim Noah, athletic, big man who can run and Marcus Williams, playmaking PG in the mold of Nash just not as good a shooter right now.

Uh, yeah - we all would. Trouble is, Noah will be a top five pick, and Williams will likely be gone by the Suns first slot, too.
