First, Peyton Manning has his first injury and surgery. Then Tony Dungy retires. Now the offense's architects have both retired:

According to the Indianapolis Star, Offensive coordinator Tom Moore and offensive line coach Howard Mudd have formally filed their retirement papers with the team.

Marking this for later. Colts had a really good draft. Mudd and More were there long enough to create a tradition. They're replacing from within (such as with Caldwell) and they have a well-defined culture of winning. I don't see them falling off much at all - but then all I hear on the radio is Colts talk. I'll bump this back up around December, Skkorp. ;)

I think as long as they have Peyton Maning at qb (healthy) they will still be a playoff contender. However they are no longer one of the dominant teams in the AFC. As a matter of fact the AFC South has some tough teams with Indy, Tennessee, Jacksonville and Houston.

The first critical point all of you pile-on goofamingos are missing is that our head coach has proven himself. Theirs is new.

Point two is we don't have a run of success. They do. We have one year.

As long as Peyton is still there and playing well the Colts will be a threat. He's the one who runs that offense.

I think the Colts will be OK as long as they have Peyton Manning and Polian, but I do think that this will probably set them back at least a couple games short term. May miss the playoffs for a year or two and be mediocre.

We will see, but they are starting to show some glitches in the armor so to speak...this draft class of theirs and how it developes is crucial to them in my opinion

Man.. Thanks for injecting some sort of reason into this thread.. The others had me depressed.. But lets hope we are just starting our run...

I think that Peyton Manning will have a monster year next year, just hopefully not against us..

This was the signature topic of conversation on SIRIUS yesterday.

It raises the question - Did the pending change in policy regarding pensions etc. along with reports that the Cardinals plan to opt out of the League pension plan enter in to Omo's decision to call it a career?

Economically, is it more advantageous for someone nearing retirement anyway to pull the trigger a bit early in order to be included in today's "better" pension plan rather than tomorrow's "less generous" pension plan?

Good point, Jeff. I am sure that this was a point of consideration in several of these decisions.

the change in pension is defininitely the reason they retired. I think Indy was on the way down last year. I know they won a bunch of games, and it sounds stupid, but they weren't all that impressive to me last year. They had an awful lot of breaks go their way last year.

They also had an awful lot of health problems last year. I fully expect them to bounce back this year and compete for the division again. But I also agree that their window is closing.
