I just don't know why the NFL bothered. They weren't going to win.

This.

The NFL could tie this up for years by apeals alone.

Not going to be that easy.

but the appeal could be denied... or if they try to get a stay on the decision, that could be denied and then this whole shebang starts pretty much immediately. the next few days should be interesting to say the least.

regardless, the players have won this battle, but they haven't won the war. that being said, losing this battle would have been the end of the war for the players.

Yep. And since the owners do not have a legal leg to stand on, I will not be surprised when their appeal is denied.

I don't know what to think, if it's already not going the Owners way, I can't see them staying in court/limbo for a long period of time. The money was what they were after and that's what they will lose with a season lost.

The Players seemed close to folding too (or at least starting to divide), but the Judge lifting the lockout today, the draftees already saying they would be at the NFL's draft on draft day, and the schedule being released I think I see some pigskin in the near future! :)

there's all this talk of it going to a more conservative court, so who knows. we'll probably get an answer sometime in the next week if this thing is over or if it's the long haul.

and it will be appealed. Sorry folks this is a LONG way from being over

This.

The judge denied a stay on her decision, which means that though the owners may be able to win eventually in appeal, they were unsuccessful in keeping the lockout active until then.

As of now, the lockout is officially over. BY LAW.

I wouldn't say they have no legal standing. The players have definately been acting together in this.

I don't think it's over. We are talking about the most powerful force in the USA. The owners are not just going to roll over on this.

Not 100% true. They can and are requesting a stay from the appeal court which will answer between now and a few days. Not officially over until they answer.

like the judge say the decision was taken mainly in favor of football fans..so it will be like that even in appeal..i see they will call for an arbitration soon

Anyone else notice the way the release was worded, that if the NFL has to open up, the owners get to make the rules.
